My wife is planning on getting a Surface Pro when/if it comes out here in Denmark. She originally wanted an iPad, but the lack of support for Flash and Silverlight meant a bunch of the sites she was primarily going to use it for wouldn't work -- and she didn't like how restricted everything felt (she's got an iPad at work now and hasn't really used it in the couple of weeks she's had it home with her). Also, when we've been out traveling, I've had my trust old 9" EeePC with me, and she's wanted her own highly portable and fully functional PC as well for a while. The Surface Pro seems to be a perfect fit...

I played around with the Surface at a Future Shop. It was .. ok, I guess. One thing I didn't like was how heavy it was. I couldn't imagine holding the thing up and using it as a tablet for very long.

Hmmm... Yeah, it seems the Pro weighs a bit more than the RT...

In terms of power, the pro is one hell of a tablet, and running windows is pretty sweet. But I can't imagine using a touchscreen to do things that I would want to use a windows computer for (such as coding). I guess you could just attach the keyboard, but then how is it different from my laptop? Just my 2 cents

I think the idea is that you use it as a tablet with the Metro interface and as a laptop with keyboard and the full Windows desktop?

^ not really. desktop, laptops, and tablets alike are forced to use metro ui a lot unless you mess with settings.

by mess with settings you mean press windows + d. the only thing forced is that it boots to metro its forced on windows rt, such as the surface rt. surface pro uses regular windows source: im da only oen using a windums 8 on tihs forum

well I mean it's not like the new desktop is what anyone is used to. I use my start button a lot.
but yeah. you're forced to at least look at metro ui. unless you want to mess with the registry.

It's possible to make Windows 8 behave mostly like Windows 7 with a lot of hacks and 3rd party software, but at that point, you might as well just be running Windows 7.
