Sweet tip that ev149. So I'm making a simple FPS and currently on the main menu you use the keyboard arrows to choose the options. Somebody recently mentioned to me this is silly and there should be a mouse cursor instead, is this pretty much the standard way of doing it?

Yes. It's more convenient that way.

Someday I have to play one of these underage Japanese girl bullet hell shooters. Watching these videos, I can't tell if the player is doing great or just barely squeaking through. What do all the gauges mean? Why do stars appear? Are they taking damage, or does that sound mean they perfectly dodged the bullet? None of it makes sense to an uninformed onlooker.

Try Touhou 2, it's a good mix between a normal shmup and the absolute masochism of the later games (also, their is less of the "underage girl" stuff, that creeps me out too for what it's worth). You will need a PC-98 emulator and the game, but neither are particularly hard to track down

I don't mean this game in particular (however jumping in a danmaku is interesting as it expend on spatial awareness). I meant the whole genre of shooter genre (shmups, fps, arena, etc...), I guess there is some site that are specialized in tracking each genre gameplay evolution.

Wawawa those nintendo direct!!! Nintendo failed to attract third party, is cranking up the first party knob to 12 on a scale of 10!! EDIT: Player: hey nintendo, what's up with all those mario, especially in quick succession, nothing else? Nintendo: Yo, I heard you had enough of mario? Okay! this is the year of ... LUIGI! Player: ... I see what you did ... Can't wait for the year of the princess ...

What game is that? This is hilarious http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-57569410-38/pirate-bay-to-sue-antipiracy-site-for-pirating-its-design/"We are outraged by this behavior," a Pirate Bay spokesman told TorrentFreak. "People must understand what is right and wrong. Stealing material like this on the Internet is a threat to economies worldwide. We feel that we must make a statement and therefore we will sue them for copyright infringement."

"The only difference is that the CIAPC's site shows an image of a sinking ship in contrast to the floating pirate ship that marks the Pirate Bay site."

Reading through the comments on the article, it's scary how many people don't realize that Pirate Bay is being all tongue-in-cheek...
