That's certianly a big change from Square Enix's previous stance on fangames, which is to stomp them into the ground with CnDs.
That was my first reaction too... They have killed how many Chrono Trigger fan games so far?

Fan gaming will get a new signification!
lol the game industry really IS trying to monetize everything these days also this will either completely destroy fan games as one of the last bastions of hobbyist game development and/or result in bad sequels to "cult classics" by shady mobile devs trying to cash in on nostalgia.

It's funny that everybody is tryying to capitalize on indie games, when indie games devellopers release mostly shit games and cashgrabs(I'm not talking about tigsource).

Except they prefaced the statement by saying "No Final Fantasy". Somebody could make a Gex game, though. Remember Gex? Anybody? Hello???

this actually looks really impressive; i like how they reduced the frame count intentionally to make it look less smoothed/more like actual anime

That's gorgeous. I hope that more games utilize whatever they are doing there. I love cel shading On a side note related to cel shading: Anyone ever played the Wacky Races game for Dreamcast? It's one of the funnest yet ball-breakingly hardest kart racers I have played but not a lot of people know about it.

Yeah, it was a good one. Looney Tunes: Space Race was also pretty good (same company too, I think).
