The Independent Gaming Source The Werewolf Game:
A forum game where you roleplay, with an emphasis on murder and lynchings. The two most common themes are Mafias and Werewolves.

Here is a cool mutant-themed one by Alevice:

Here is a Wikipedia article that explains the generic rules and lists a ton of rule variations:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_(party_game)

The real flavor is created by the game master, which does most of the storytelling. So in order to have a really good game you need someone like Alevice to host it.

The main drawback is the heavy player elimination. It's not that bad on a forum, but it can lead to boring IRL games. So with friends I usually play The Resistance that removes player elimination in favor of deduction. I even made my own Harry Potter themed version of the game Wizard

I have played a couple of resistance games before, but I am terrible at implementing extra twist of it as I would on mafia. Arrgh I am totally compelled to host one, but I havent thought of shit yet.

Also its good to know someone has enjoyed my convoluted silly narratives on my hosted games. I have hosted a few others over other places that were hectic as shit.

It should be noted that inanimate also hosted a couple of awesome ones, a bit less convoluted but equally fresh:

Governments have been doing this for ages, giving potentially harmful regulations friendly sounding names like "The Patriot Act" or naming their country "The People's Republic of North Korea".

Now, if he had suggested branding NSA monitoring of your cell phone as paid DLC that gives you an early unlock of some weapons in the next Activision title, then I'd be impressed that we'd advanced to a new level. "Unlock NSA monitoring today, and get the Custom Taupe M16 on day one! Dominate multiplayer AND stop real terrorists!"

"We do all the things we can to essentially brainwash people into liking it before it actually comes out"

hahaha, yeah, marketing looks like brainwashing sometimes, hahaha

"That's what former Call of Duty director Dave Anthony told a think-tank forum in Washington this week."

wait a minute

"The forum was organised by the Atlantic Council, a think-tank where Anthony is a fellow in international security"

waaaaait a minute

"stationing undercover US soldiers in schools, much like air marshalls on aeroplanes.
"The public won't like it, they'll think it's a police state," he said, then added, "All of these are solvable problems."

well fuck

"The hugely successful Call of Duty franchise has strong ties to the real-world US military."

can't treat this as minor trivia anymore

btw, this is a vid I wanted to post because I found it inspiring from the creative POV, but I suppose it also talks about the people who will actually keep an eye on your kids, without shooting them or blacklisting them in some military database:

I love how in the comments people say it was taken "out of context", like using a game to glorify US military (and hence facilitate soldiers in schools) was some kind of impossible dystopian proposition that would never happen in the real world...
