Hm, I dunno. It lacks a cohesive story and large parts of it are extremely boring. Matt Dillahunty describes it as a comedy of god's failures. Creating human, things go to crap, kill them all to reboot, things go to crap, pick a chosen prophet, things go to crap, etc. etc. But it's not great comedy writing and the world building is pretty incoherent.

I read the Illiad last year and it had much better story telling, but it was still boring as hell.

Heh you just describe Tolkien for real! Like him, the part are better than the whole (don't ask where orks come, evil can't create in his world yet they are multitude, etc ...)

As a side note, my math teacher recently incorporated classcraft into our class as a test (we are six people in that class, so it's not as risky). I'm not sure whether it's distracting or motivating, but we had the privilege of hearing him sing Let It Go from Frozen today because of it, and that did bring fun to the class. We also frequently use a tool called graph easy to visualize esoteric functions we encounter in our problems, and it also brings enjoyment to the group.

The Bible is actually a bunch of different books strung together, so judging them as a single work is going to be problematic. Song of songs is some really good love/erotic poetry, genesis has really good and some bad moments, deutoronomy and numbers is pretty boring, etc. Reading them this way, as individual books, is much better for enjoyment.

The things you're describing are characteristics of a lot of ancient epics, btw, like the Illiad you already mentioned. Long lists of names, so called incoherent world building (to modern standards, that search so much for narrative unity), repetitive narrative structure (consequence of oral composition), etc. It' not the text fault if it doesn't do what a modern reader expects a story should do.

I agree with Gimym. Whoever likes the epic part of Tolkien, things like the Silmarillion, and enjoys ancient epics in general will enjoy reading much of the Bible.

Plus you only read the fragmented fun parts, just like with mobile gaming.
