I think it's a better marketing approach than them switching boats. They probably realize that trying to compete with the PS4 and XBONE the way they do against each other is a lost cause.
Still would be nice to see a Nintendo console that would have the same technical capabilities like the SNES or Gamecube in their time.

I expected something like 3 or 2 time more powerful than current output, with similar hardware for handheld and home console, but handheld throttle down for battery.
However raspberry pi 2 is literally more power full than a wii for 1/8th the price (35€), what if all controller are mini console (a controller is 50€) it packed already a lot of necessary tech (see wiimote with speaker, memory and motion control). Toss into that cheap screen (not the rez of the gamepad) to have GBA level of 4 player glory and I'm sold. DISTRIBUTE THE POWER DO NOT CONCENTRATE IT!

It's official! splatoon, that new IP, beat mario kart 8, smash, dqX and ps4 within 2 month in japan Edit: I also noticed how the game is fine tuned to online, lag is less important when you are painting level instead of twitch confrontation, ballistic weapon bullet allow for prediction ahead of time in case of late packet, most powerful move have a starting time (again it help with late packet) and it give great "gamefeel ", it's just wonderful

i like how inafune has managed to convince everyone that he is somehow the CREATIVE GENIUS behind megaman when in fact he probably did v little actual game design for the series.

Lateral Thinking with Withered TechnologyYokoi articulated his philosophy of "Lateral Thinking of Withered Technology" (枯れた技術の水平思考?, "Kareta Gijutsu no Suihei Shikō") (also translated as "Lateral Thinking with Seasoned Technology") in the book, Yokoi Gunpei Game House (横井軍平ゲーム館 Yokoi Gunpei Gēmu-kan?), which consists of a collection of interviews. "Withered technology" in this context refers to a mature technology which is cheap and well understood. "Lateral thinking" refers to finding radical new ways of using such technology. Yokoi held that toys and games do not necessarily require cutting edge technology; novel and fun gameplay are more important. In the interview he suggested that expensive cutting edge technology can get in the way of developing a new product.
Game & Watch was developed based on this philosophy. At the time of its development, Sharp and Casio were fiercely competing in the digital calculator market. For this reason, there was a glut of liquid crystal displays and semiconductors. The "lateral thinking" was to find an original and fun use for this cheap and abundant technology. Source

I'm also looking forward to the day when construction crews remain employed around the clock building full-scale cities for no purpose other than to be demolished by two ten story battling robots. A giant robot based economy will finally allow the world to enjoy unending prosperity.
