I recommend anyone who likes Super Metroid a lot to check out a new romhack of it called Hyper Metroid, it is very well made. Also yeah Google's new logo is a big shock. I can't wait until I'm looking back on the older logo and thinking it looks comparatively weird. What messes me up more is Google's new favico... it looks like an icon for a trashy ad site or something. When I have google tabs open I don't even identify it as google because that weird little icon. I can't believe the overarching Google company is going to be known as "Alphabet" now, too. So many changes.

I will eventually do that by creating a spiritual successor to Super Metroid (long term goal). So many metroidvanias out there, but the next iteration of Super Metroid is yet to be made.
I thought you were bashing on the controls earlier. You actually like Super Metroid? That is not how I reason about games. To me Super Metroid is only an implementation of a framework for a greater vision, an implementation can have flaws and be incomplete (I still bash the controls today, for instance). But thanks to Super Metroid's existence I discovered that framework for a greater vision. I mainly want a richer interaction depth with the living environment and combat that complements the dark isolated atmosphere and the sense of discovery. Some people might assume that caring about controls is a small detail obsessed work, but it can have fundamental implications for concepts on a larger scale. Controls can change the relationship you have with the world you are exploring; the way you overcome obstacles, the way you fight, the way you plan your intentions ahead, the way you estimate the possibilities and limits of the world you are exploring etc.

@silber me too, i think the design is bad, minimalism is bad in general, it make things more confusing because people just apply it mindlessly instead of solving the goal of minimalism, clutter, minimalism tend to lose the affordance necessary to read or interact with stuff, mistaking cleanliness for readability. Minimalism is bad because it's low key and tend to equalize all elements mean there is no emphasis on anything any notion any idea, it says effectively nothing.
And I like minimalism, but now it's start to be ridiculous.

Just look at the iPhone home screen and you'll immediately see why badly applied minimalism is bad.

The problem is when design became social standing, you have to repeat the social norm to fit in and broadcast status, minimalism in tech industry is just that right now.

I have and will always think of pixel art as composite art. It's a bunch of primary shapes which were originally determined by the shape of a pixel on the screen, which could have very well been a circle or a triangle, but we thought it should be square. (feel free to correct me, for all I know MSPaint decided it should be square)
Minimalism continues to be interpreted about as many ways as fun.
I haven't played any rom hacks yet, they often look crazy and I didn't want to confuse the experience with the original game. I'm not sure if that's a good enough excuse now.

imagine an image in the future making fun of 2010s design and it's just a blank white square

Been here a few days, very glad the threads don't completely vanish overnight, community is friendly, I think i'm gonna build a house on the front lawn, and stick around for awhile.

So I looked at white label tablet market ... depending on volume you can have a tablet a bit more powerful than a GC (more ram, modern features) with all the tablet shenanigans (screen, gyro, etc ...) for 1€ to 20€ ...
Indie can sell game directly on their own console now lol

That's pretty irrelevant though. I get that it frustrates some people but it really is just a detail.

That's pretty irrelevant though. I get that it frustrates some people but it really is just a detail. Wait till you go to design school and they make a demonstration how it is jarring in the rythm of complex composition, you will obsess other it like any 2 years students ... Of course actual pro don't obsess about it that much because: - 1. most compositions aren't that complex so it's not jarring - 2. they tend to do it automatically anyway because that's hwt they got to school for and exercise kind of drill it into muscle memory - 3. when the composition is complex it is taken care of by the virtue of being a sour point that is seen 10 000 miles away - 4. only designer minded peoples will notice, that less that 0.0001% of the population if not even less than that. BUT in the case of google: - 1. it speak poorly that a multi million dollar valued and design obsess company make such a mistake - 2. the overall design is static and floaty anyway it does already speak poorly of the company
