Yes, that's what happens when you build things with proprietary tech on a non-standard platform. This is great, because it will stop people from dooming even more games to the same fate + ruining the web

ohhhh oops i misread his tweets. i thought "every 5 mins there's a purchase" meant "every 5 mins the kid MAKES a purchase". yea marketing to small children is always ethically iffy, esp when it's aggressive marketing via paywalls and shit. here's a good article by ramin shokrizade about it: http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/RaminShokrizade/20130620/194429/Monetizing_Children.phpi think there was another, even better one, but i can't find it. dude has written a LOT on f2p.

The web is a non-standard platform?
No, proprietary web plugins are non-standard. In the case of Unity, they create web pages that only a low number of supported browsers can display¹. And additionally ruins the web with vendor lock-in and huge security issues. Just look at the incredible mess that Flash has created. 1. Approved browsers on Windows: Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera Approved browsers on MacOSX: Safari, Firefox Approved browsers on Linux, Android, iOS, WinPhone, BSD, FFOS: None

I don't have either and even if I could (which I can't) I wouldn't. I don't have Flash installed either. I'm really happy they're going away.

Which was a fantastic and necessary move by them. But that's not the only browser missing from that list, there are tons of smaller browsers that don't have the backing of huge money. They should still be able to render the web properly, which a standardization of the web makes possible. Now we just need to get rid of the last proprietary plugins.
edit: but the OS lock-in is the bigger problem
