I don't have an Oculus, and you don't need one. I used my ordinary computer and we used skype to communicate. Got all the way to the "Challenging" levels in the campaign before we called it a night.

My bro does have an Oculus though, and next time we play will probably be at his place so we can use it.

You mean where you use cardboard and a smart phone? I saw one of those at a tech fair last week and it was pretty cool. It would be hard to play the game on, though, because you need a controller to manipulate the game.

What about Witch Princess's development was the problem? Quantify that and come up with a plan that takes that problem into account. It won't fix everything, but it may be enough that you can start development with a clearer mind.

If you really wanted to let it go you wouldn't keep going back to thinking about it. I don't think you want to let it go, I think maybe you are just afraid you can't actually finish it so you are reluctant to continue with it. I have a ton of projects I don't let go, I just alternate between them and add to them little by little. I am not so worried about finishing as I am just enjoying the process of working on them.

Often I will take pieces of several projects I am working on and insert them into others, so essentially by working on one project I am gaining ground on many. Don't shackle yourself to some imaginary obligation, create freely and inevitably you will develop the projects that are really worthwhile to you. Not everyone is a hardcore game developer grinding away at a single effort, a lot of us are just dabblers enjoying the process. There's nothing wrong with that (even if being in a community of game developers and seeing all the projects progressing along can make you feel otherwise).

The other thing is you already have resources made for Witch Princess, you can always start the programming anew and try different things. Just because you have created things previously does not mean you are set on some unchangeable path. Experiment, apply new things learned, be creative. The end result will always be some kind of growth.

the first project you spent time on is like your first love, you'll never forget about it and it will bother all your next projects.

You're weird, then, CA.

I still remember fondly when I made "Bob's Adventure!" in Klik and Play with lots of ripped SNES game midis.

Tetris

I wanna talk about Tetris and why I love it so much.
There's one important thing I learned from Tetris and it's this: don't be afraid.

You can't win a game of Teris, you'll always loose (talking about the classic marathon mode here).
You can only try to do a little bit better then the your last attempt, trying do not make the same mistakes again.
You already win by accepting the challenge.

Man, the first game I made was so crap that even I don't have the source code anymore and I don't care. Maybe I will release it and laugh at it.

And Conker, your game deserve another chance. I also checked the game's Tumblr for updates. Maybe you can scrap some features to make the work more easier.

Nah, I've forgotten my first project years ago. But it was on an Intertec Superbrain. I'm guessing it was probably an RPG, since those can be okay text-based games.

i do remember my first project (a text based battleship gam with resource management) but i don't feel particularly strongly about it and i wouldn't say its had any influence on gams i made later.
