If that's the case, you could use blues and purples in a way that still makes it feel colorful. Not to toot my own horn, but this is a quick color sketch I did a while back- I just needed a quick example for colorful night scenes. You might want to look into these sorts of tones for your game, if that's the kind of atmosphere you want.

Hsv is not the only way to think about color, contrast too are very important ... Theo's (awesome) image is full of contrast!

Ooh, yeah, that's true- you wanna also think about what's called simultaneous contrast. The reason choosing the right colors can be really tricky is that certain colors will actually appear different based on its surroundings. The middle strip in each of the blocks only looks different on either side because of what it's placed in front of. Neutral colors can help mellow ones that are far louder, highly saturated tones can vibrate off of each other, creating a neon look. Using my picture, the trees in the background are colored with a grayish blue. Under normal circumstances, the color would actually appear pretty dull, but because it's surrounded by neutral and darker colors, it really pops out. I feel like this discussion might be better continued in the Art forum, but it's fun talking about this sort of thing! I'm still learning a lot about color theory, but I'm willing to talk about what I've gathered so far. Oh, and thank you Gilbert. C:

Woah. Theo, this is blowing my mind. I know this is going to sound really dumb but I never thought you could do so much with colours.

If I remember correctly, you need a magic memory stick and a hacked battery. It's retardedly complicated.

Dude, it's cool- that's exactly what blew my mind when I started really paying attention to this stuff. One of the craziest moments I had after reading the Color Curriculum posts was looking around my dorm and admiring all of the tiny flecks of color I'd missed beforehand. The tiles on my floor were normally a very muted grey-green, but I had never noticed that there were stripes of deep brown, white, and pink. PINK. There was pink on my tiles and I never realized it before. It was an epiphany.

If you want to see first-hand how much you can do with colours, try doing something with an extremely limited palette. Like a 4 colour or better yet, 4 shades of the same colour. Even just a mockup or a sketch. Contrast between adjacent colours can give profound depth to the same colour, just by juxtaposing it with darker or lighter shades.

man this is all so cool. Also good because I found the perfect perspective(top down) for this idea I got and I can't wait to develop the art style.

In Sister Street Fighter, Koryu wears a rainbow-striped belt in the last fight. Oh my God, I am in love.

What's ridiculous is not just that there is a Republican counter-bill being written that will declare that greenhouse gases cannot be discussed in relation to global warming, but the fact that a bill like this even needed to be passed. Why do we need to pass laws regarding scientific study? It's a waste of everyone's time, and only serves to fuel further speculation from detractors that you're trying to oppress "the truth".

A lot of wiiware devellopers are reporting being given the finger by Nintendo because their sales don't reach a certain threshold and so they won't earn anything.

Nintendo is big N again, pretending to change but not really, Business side nintendo always has been a dick, no wonder no one want to play with him.
He's self sufficient let him make game alone, we will buy it. But we should not play on his lawn.
