What would the legality of obtaining an "illegal" copy of a Game Maker version you bought beforehand?

5 tickets so far in the Steam summer event. I had to farm the Lead and Gold one and while the AaAaAA!!! one was the most frustrating, it was definitely the most satisfying.

Depends on the EULA, it's probably forbidden in that it counts as tampering with the software (by removing the license checks from the exe) or something along those lines, but the software doesn't leave a footprint of who made it or anything, so I'd worry about morality more than legality... Shrug

Devil May Cry 4 was 50% off today on Steam, down to $10.

Had to buy.

obtw, does anyone know of a really good spacescape artist?
I'm looking for really cinematic, more than one moon, sorta stuff. But not too cheesy.

Guys, there are other threads for that sorta thing. Check the Collaborations sections on the site.

In the meantime, is anybody else curious to see what'll happen now that the Source SDK is available for free? Granted, the tools were pretty cheap for a while (you just had to buy a Valve game to use 'em), but by making this free, what do you think it means for standalone projects?

Same as it always was, I suspect, maybe a couple more mods, although anyone who wanted the mod in Source probably wouldn't have bothered waiting until now.

Still have to license for commercial projects, so... just a bit more accessibility all round.

Completely true. If you're a core gamer, and you're on a budget, this is mostly how it sums up. The "average" is a decent rating for a direct-in-concept sequel to a game you really got into, and where I kinda expect Dark Souls to pop up, seeing as it's being "Bandai-handled." Sometimes you can find some interesting "love them or hate them" titles around the upper "Sux" range usually, too - but you'd have to do some reading and a rental/demo to see if it's right for you.

One thing I disagree with is the "home team bias." Most US gamers I know of tend to favor Japan-oriented titles moreso than domestic ones, except the occasional breakout (GTA: San Andreas/Rock Band, anybody?).

I think it's a lot due to the fact that western titles are often very similar to the rest of western pop culture (movies, comic books, etc.): world war 2, zombies, aliens, blablabla.

When you want a bit of variety, it's nice to get out of this space and japanese games do that well.

Or it's possibly just because video games originated in Japan and most of the series we have grown up playing (Nintendo, Sega, Square/Enix, Capcom, Konami, Namco etc.) are Japanese in origin. Name recognition is a killer.

Also, going from GM 8.0 to 7.0 is harder than one would imagine. They really DID make some vast improvements there! (And my old reg-code fail't.)

So it turns out Alice Madness Returns has day-one DLC
except that it's free. PC players, into the AliceEngine.ini in My Docu/My Games/Alice/Something/Something at the bottom there is something about premium something = FALSE
set to TRUE

Plus bizarre upgraded versions of all the default weapons.
