Because they are the spirit of the thing, in a new light. Often we remember things fondly, and they may or may not live up to those memories. But a cool little homage with its own sense of style, or something that neatly deconstructs the original game's mechanics and design, is not only an interesting game from a design perspective but also evokes nostalgia and etc.

I managed it with first try, except as an non-native person I'm not sure what word should be opposite with "from", perhaps because I can't figure Finnish word of opposite for that either.
