i guess.
the dubstep i like is the "older" (im calling music from the mid-00s "old" lol) stuff like shackleton, burial, appleblim, pinch, digital mystikz etc. the "brostep" thing it's evolved into contains next to nothing of what i like about these guys. i also hate the immature douchebaggy attitude the music projects.
brostep is missing the whole like, dub part of dubstep. it went from being a sort of min/max thing with large swaths of empty/quiet areas in the song to provide a sense of space to contrast against the really deep 2step/garage bass (the whole point of the 'drop') to this extremely maximal sound that tries to cram as much auditory information in as possible.
i'm not into brostep stuff, though i definitely would have a been few years ago when i was more into dance/club stuff (minimal house, dnb. still big into jungle tho). some of it is fun and has some catchy hooks, but i find that it's really just too much to listen to for more than a few songs (I can't imagine trying to work though a whole album of brostep), and so so so much of it is total crap (see: [song title] - dubstep remix) that just does not hold up to an active listening.
