Main problem with Unity: it's proprietary.

Which means that you get locked in. You have to pay them money to be allowed to deploy to certain platforms. You're not allowed to create workarounds to make the game run on unsupported platforms, like Linux or gameboy. If they ever decide to do something strange with their licensing or system you're screwed.

Also, no Linux-support.

You won't run into either of these problems if you use free libraries.

It's up to you to decide if the risks are worth the benefits.

Just ame back from watching prometheus:

As everyone has said already, the plot has no sense of pace or development whatsoever. Things just seem to happen because. There is no sense of events having any sort of cohesion nor consequences. People just shrug off deads and creepy incidents. - Charlie's death bordered on ridiculous given how little of a fuck everyone gave, the fact that Noomi's character performed a live open surgery on herself, without any effectiv anesthetic (no muscle was relaxed at all, and it was obvious she felt a lot of pain) and then afetr magic surgery is done, she magically recovers in freaking seconds (again anesthetic didnt seem to neitehr relax nervous system not msucles nor anything) and while still having abarely stitched stomahc, she ran everyfucking where. T

he no weapons bs seems to be followed only because the plot demands it, the same for the ship not leaving nor the crew preparing for any real threat. WHat was the whole point of Charlize being Weylands dauhter again? ontributed shit to the plot and made no sense whatsoever (weyland seems to be on his late eighties nineties, charlize is like half that age).

Then there is the Space Jockey/Engineer total bs. Fresh fossils (the beheaded guy didnt degrade at all), the magically fucntioning nervous system, the ridiculous holographic logs, the cryogenized dude that just kills everyone in sight. Meh.

And then the alien references. Apparently the origin was now goes circular in references and the Jockeys created the Xenomorph, which then killed them, ripping off metroid now. All the monster activity was basically xenomorph bs - eggs/vases, huge ass facehugger, fullgornw alien birth. Meh.

I could go on, but damn, whats the point. It was boring, and didnt contribute shit.

VAGUE PROMETHEUS SPOILERS:

The film actually has like four major themes going on with regards to life/death, id/ego/superego, creators and their creations, and the search for meaning and its effects on belief.  Even more than monster, shock, or body horror, it's existential horror.

On top of all that, there's a huge amount of misplaced mythological and religious allusion which sort of dilutes things.  This wasn't an origin story for the xenomorphs, given that there's literally an apocalyptic mural of the humanoid xenomorph in the tomb.  The "hey surprise it's that alien you idiots love" is dumb as heck and adds nothing to the story.

Vickers being Weyland's daughter is important because of her competing with David for his affection, "everyone wants their parents dead", and how it relates to humanity seeking their creators and finding out they're a dissapointment.

The reason no one 'cares' about the magnificent findings is because the whole point is, again, about humans being unsatisfied with the truth and wanting these big discoveries to have some existential meaning.  David, the android, is the only one who knows that the trick is to not mind the pain.

The film had some serious pacing problems I'll freely agree, but 30 minutes got cut from the release, so I'll reserve most of my judgment until I can watch the whole thing.

If it makes you feel better, consider it a movie about Ridley Scott seeding a fandom with his movie and then when his fans want more it turns out he hates them.

i just want the recognition of "hey that guy made the art for this game"

even though i'm not very interested in making the game at all.. (probably because i want to make the game I WANT TO) but since i don't have a team and they're a team, if you can't beat them join them?  Shrug

and maybe after this we can make MY GAME this time

Maybe if you're trying to become a psychiatrist. Beyond that, don't bother. Find a project you're passionate about, so the art will reflect that passion.

I doubt it would work out like that. Most likely, they think they're doing you a favor or something. Why not just post a topic in the jobs section to hook up with a programmer or something?

If you're the main graphics guy, why not try to make the animes into something slightly more your style?

Does anyone here really like Jigsaw puzzles? I've been busy working a trio of puzzles that my little bro thoughtfully mixed up in one box and hid the cover. He even took the time to sort out all the edge pieces and put them in a separate box so I could put them in the closet and ignore them until I finish the rest of the puzzle. It's pretty much the best puzzle I've ever had. I still don't know what one of the pictures is supposed to be.

You shouldn't be creating work for someone else's University project either way. A University project is not a commercial title so there should be no need for them to bring in external help (unless they are trying to convert the project into a commercial title after it has been marked, or something like that). In my opionion it's just bad form.

It's fine to work on projects for free as long as everyone is working on it for free. But if someone is gaining something from it, like money, or in this case marks, then you shouldn't do it.

There's always people making cool stuff, in my opinion you should get out of that arrangement as quick as possible so no one wastes their time.

I also support the motion of, "fuck that for a game of soldiers".

You should only be supporting an art style if you're doing a sequel or called in to finish a game that is already in progress. Otherwise they should be relying on your expertise as the "visual" guy.

I am an artist, but if that's not my role then I 100% bow down to what the artist I'm working with says when it comes to the visuals. They know their shit. They aren't going to tell me how to code, and I'm not going to tell them how to draw.

That's how it should be. Respect your specialists and trust their expertise. Or don't work with them at all.
