An interesting variation on Rock Paper Scissors by Sam Kass:

Quote
I invented this game (with Karen Bryla) because it seems like when you know someone well enough, 75-80% of any Rock-Paper-Scissors games you play with that person end up in a tie. Well, here is a slight variation that reduces that probability. (Note that for those of you who like to swing your fist back and forth and say, "Rock, Paper, Scissors, GO!", might want to continue to do that, replacing "Rock" with "One," "Paper" with "Two," and "Scissors" with "Three.") This version is also nice because it satisfies the Law of Fives.

It gets even more insane with RPS25

There is even a table for how you speak all the 300 possible outcomes.

How do you make the lizard sign? I can't seem to understand the drawing. RPS25 looks intense Smiley I gotta try it someday! Smiley

I hope more designers used Rock-Paper-Scissors-Spock-Lizard in their unit/class/race balancing instead of the simpler Rock-Paper-Scissors that it often boils down to.

One time in a boring Psychology class, me and my friends came up with tons of RPS variants like that. I think my favourite was "Bees, Turtle, Cougar, Hunter, Bear".

I want to see a RPS 101 trading card game. I may just have to make it myself.

In my 2nd year of school I remember playing a Pokemon-based variant called 'Water, Grass, Fire'. Unfortunately there was this one dickhead who would always, always poke out his fingers like legs and shout 'Hitmonlee!'.

I made a "rock paper scissors"-variation game a few months ago: Rockwell Papyrus Skia.

In the screenshot above, the top text sample is in the same font as the word "Paper", and the bottom text sample is in the same font as the word "Rock". Paper beats Rock, so click the top text sample to win the round.

You can grab it here if you'd like to play.

Heh, that's pretty neat. I'm afraid there's a game balance issue, though--it would be way harder for me to distinguish Paper and Scissors than either of those and Rock. Giggle

I used to play a version where both players make up some sort of hand position, then a third party acting as judge asks both players what their thing is, at which point the players say what it is they made up.  The judge then picks a winner.  No good for making decisions or settling arguments (more likely causing them), but quite a bit of fun.   Gentleman

Sounds just like that scene towards the end of the Sword in the Stone, where the wizards keep on turning into bigger and bigger creatures, until they take the fight down to the microscopic level...
