Who's programming, anyway?
You know, I have some fighting game engines just laying around if you guys are serious about doing this. 

For example the Super Pillow Fighter engine loads all the characters, levels, etc. at run time, nothing is hard coded into the system.  People might not like the game for a variety of reasons, but it uses a pretty snappy smash-style game engine.  I'd be more than happy to tweak it for whatever game flavors you dudes want (within reason).

Somebody else would have to do the artwork, music and sound effects though.

Nay! We can't! Traditional and pixel art are like... two staircases, in different locations, so while your legs might be tough and able to climb one, uh, the metaphor doesn't make any sense!

Well, the art in this game don't necessarily have to be sprite-based.  All the character and animation code I've got laying around is based on 2d paper doll style animation.  If we can get good enough artists, it's capable of doing Odin Sphere quality.  Plus it will make the work easier for the artists, since they will only have to do a few pieces rather than sprite up every frame of animation.

Anywho I was thinking that the art would be Street Fighter or other fighter-esque as far as design. Real jap-y, smoothly animated stuff.

In other words nothing like what I posted as example of my work.
