Ooh, choose your own adventure comicompo -- each page must end with a choice, and then the next artists receive the page + which choice/path they are illustrating That's GENIUS! I really, really want to do this. In fact I might even run it, if neither you nor Xerus does. I agree that this is a pretty cool idea.

The two problems I foresee with that would be:
1) how do you format something like that to be readable online. I guess you could just have two 'next' buttons, but unless people were willing to read through the comic to see all the various branches, you'd end up with some people not getting their work shown.
2) the longer the compo lasts, the more people are concurrently drawing pages, the more people you need to draw the next set of pages. Your page count would increase exponentially. 1 person draws the first page 2 people draw the next page 4 people draw the third page 8 people draw the fourth page 16 people draw the fifth page 32 people draw the sixth page... 64, 128, 256, 512, 1024...
Maybe if it was limited to four or five pages you could do it, but after that I doubt you'd be able to actually assign pages and then keep track of who finished what, which person(s) you assigned which permutation of the page to.
It would be possible to manage it all, but it would probably be hard as hell to keep everything straight. You'd also need a specific number of people to do it. This compo had over 50 people sign up and less than 50 pages completed. for a 6-page narrative in a branching comic, you'd need exactly 63 pages in order to cover all the branches.
Personally, I kinda like the idea of doing an anthology. That could totally be done on the side, tho. You could just set a theme and a due date and people could submit any amount of pages they'd like to tell a simple story. I don't think it would have to replace the current compo format, tho. You could run them concurrently. Maybe it would give the later compo artists something to do or practice on before they got their compo page :D

We can talk about the next comic after this one's out, alright?
Kyle, are you still waiting for that lost page?
Yes, there is still a page floating out there and if I don't get it soon I'm just going to end up putting the comic online with it unfinished and subject it's author to eternal embarrassment.

OR, get someone to look at the pages before and after and have him draw in the blank.

Another alternative: get someone competent to ink and colour the unfinished page. If nobody else volunteers I'm happy to do it. Guaranteed turnaround within 24h.

Dooo eeet! The spirit of the comic is collaboration anyway. It is long past the time where the original artist could complain. Procrastipanda would be proud.

Ok, I'm a bit lost here, as usual - But it almost sounds as if there's someone with a page in the middle of everything who hasn't finished? How could our comicompo god and saviour have allowed such an atrocity?!
