I can't wait to see where the thing ended up compared to the first couple of pages. I also hope astrospoon doesn't hold grudges for too long after seeing what I did to his awesome first page

To be honest, I'd be amazed if plot, characters or anything at all survived beyond 2-3 pages from its starting point!

I don't know, I think much of the charm is in the unexpected turns these things take. I wouldn't want it to hold together too well.

I think the key to a good comicompo is making each page have enough information about the last to continue the thread, about 50% of the pages did this, and the others kinda... did not. So it's interesting to see where it goes.
As soon as the cover is done I will start putting together the final presentation of the comic and then get it out there.
I'm still waiting for someone to finish their damn page though.

Hey, I was wondering what everyone thought of the next comic compo being an anthology? It seems like this would lend itself pretty well to that format and people wouldn't have to worry about having to interpret someone's page (which I admit is fun but it would be interesting to try something new).
Also, an anthology could potentially take less time to make as everyone could work on their contributions independently of each other eliminating the need for short deadlines. There could be one solid deadline for everyone to turn in their submission (one to two page short story) and there would be an overarching them of course. What do you guys think?

What exactly do you mean by "anthology"? As in, the pages aren't related, linearly? Just sorta stand-alone by theme?
Well, if we're coming up with idea variations, I'll submit the branching storyline: after every page (or two or four or whatever), the page in question is given to two different people, who make two different follow-ups. Those two then branch off (after a page or two or four or whatever), each having two variations done, and so forth. The result would probably end up being pretty weird (with many endings, I guess, unless you'd also want to try the madness of merging paths partway through), and the process would probably be a nightmare to keep track of. But it would theoretically go quicker once the multiple paths got going at the same time.
...But anyway, it's just an idea.

Well, there would be an a main theme and then everyone would makes stories related to that theme. I think the best way to do it would be for everyone to work on their pages separately with the main unifying factor being the theme that we decide upon. This would eliminate the need to pass on pages from one person to the next and having to wait on people to either a) complete their page or b) pass on their turn. The benefit of this process would be that there could be one final deadline (aka three months from whatever date) and all submissions could be turned in before or on that date.

Hey, I was wondering what everyone thought of the next comic compo being an anthology? I wouldn't mind doing something real, if that's what you're getting at. It was definitely a disconnect signing up, getting accepted, then waiting 8-10 months before we could do a page. The results will be amusing, but there's a real difference between the motivation/"ZOMG THIS SOUND LIKE FUN" when we signed up and when we got pages. Plus it meant 1-2 times every week for nearly a year Kyle/Xerus had to poke and PM people to make it happen. If we're talking a published anthology akin to Flight and Robot (but smaller scope, web+printed), I think the next question is what we as a community offer over other comics? Rather, I think that needs to be nailed down to give such a project/product its purpose. Comics by people who make games? I dunno, that's a discussion in and of itself. Something short, 1-X pages certainly sounds more doable than a 20+ page work, given the majority of people here are busy with game projects and whatnot. And I'm always a fan of more physical things to mount and hang on my wall.

Exactly, this is what I think an anthology would counteract. The organizer wouldn't have to worry about people getting their submissions in on time and the submitters could have much more time and less pressure to put something out. Not only that but it is intriguing what sort of stories we would get from an effort like this, especially looking at the variety of styles and changes that the current format of the compo goes through. Personally I think that it would be a welcome diversion from the traditional rules of the compo and has the potential of generating some really awesome stuff. It would be interesting to see more coherent stories told by the talented folks here at the forums.
