Anyway, I agree that Renton seems highly agitated and defensive. And Guise doesn't seem like he's a werewolf. It's really just a hunch but the whole light-going-into-him thing doesn't match up with what I imagine werewolves to be like.

The sun passes over the edge of the caldera again, and the townsfolk gather together, knowing death will soon follow.

The townsfolk turn towards Renton, who backs away slowly, "Wait, you're making a mistake, goddammit! I'm just trying--" he starts yelling, before being interrupted by a empty tequila bottle flying into his skull. He reels on the floor, grasping his forehead. Xotes, limping over, hefts his shotgun into Renton's torso and shoots, spraying blood onto the onlooking townsfolk. Renton is dead.
A quick search of his body reveals an ivory sheath hidden beneath his jacket, with a pristine sword contained within.
