Just got an email notification about this, imagined it might be TIGsource relevant.

http://otakumag.com/v5/exclusivepreview.html

Especially the DVD that comes with it:

Quote
INTERACTIVE DVD (for MAC, LINUX or PC with Flash Player installed)
(comes with OTAKU MAGAZINE)

Audio
8-bit artists from around the world

Dubmood (FR), Graffiti Monsters (USA), Ikuma (SG), Jellica (UK), Kaseo (JP), Kplecraft (JP), Makunouchi Bento (RO), minus (RO), Moloh (RO), Nordloef (SE), Nullsleep (USA), Peter Swimm (USA), Pixelh8 (UK), Random (SE), she (SE), Sidabitball (FR), USK (JP).

Video
Live performances from Blip Festival NYC

8GB (AR), 6955 (JP), Alex Mauer (USA), Bit Shifter (USA), Blasterhead (JP), B.S.K. (JP), Bubblyfish (USA), Coova (JP), Covox (SE), Glomag (USA), Kaseo (JP), Markus Schrodt (AT), minus (RO), minusbaby (USA), Neil Voss (USA), Nullsleep (USA), Postal_M@rket (IT), Saitone (JP), Saskrotch (USA), The Depreciation Guild (USA), YMCK (JP)

Indie Games
Trailers and information about the greatest independent games

Blueberry Garden, Cletus Clay, Cortex Command, Crayon Physics Deluxe, Dyson, Feist, Machinarium, Mightier, Osmos, Retro/Grade, Snapshot, Walkie Tonky, World Of Goo.

Extra
Baneling MOC, Boxing Tonight, Galaxy Tonight, Kyle Downes, Ie Ilie, Reformat the planet, Sting Operation, Video Games Live.

I'm not up on the latest indie game development news, but there might be a new trailer or dev-info somewhere in that "Īndie Games" section. The poster is pretty darn sweet too.

Though I must take issue with their co-option of the term "Otaku" to refer to some sort of hipster art movement nonsense, rather than it's proper cultural context. But nobody likely cares about that.

Oh wow, this mag looks really awesome. Sounds like something that has been discussed in the TIGzine thread.

Limited print of 350 issues though? Wow, that's super underground. I agree that the title of the mag should really change though. Does the world really need ANOTHER mag with Otaku in the title?

They seem to also have other feature issues not limited to games: http://www.behance.net/otakumag

I would like a free copy of this since they're using Snapshot media.

But I care about that, because I hate both hipsters and otakus (they both need to get lives).  Wink

Anyway, look interesting, and that is in fact a bitchin' poster!  Beer!

good luck, I sent an email to pcmag once asking for the issue where they mentioned me, got a generic response back with a link on how to back-order issues.

tried to get edge to send me copies too, they just didn't respond to my emails at all
saw the stack of them at gdc and took a bunch though, that'll show them

I'd say it's rare for mags to send out issues to people covered. When I've contacted game mod developers to be featured in a few German print mags, all I could (usually) offer them was a PDF scan of the respective article. Mailing Print issues around was quite the exception, and it only happened for really awesome mods or exclusive deals (ie. "we can have your mod on our DVD, but no other German mag can"). It's a financial and organisational hassle to send out dozens of magazine issues throughout the world every month. Such is the way of the world. Sad

E-boy E-city poster? Party like it's 2005! Wink

DVD content seems more encouraging, though.
