Linearity.

The thing that turns me off of most FPS is the linear nature of the level design in a lot of them. I would love to see a "sandbox" type shooter. Maybe a cross between RPG and FPS (not that that isn't somewhat cliche by now lol). If it was done well though I think it could help the redundant nature of some of these games. I mean it is great to shoot things but I am tired of having my hand held while I am.
