Something needs to be done to limit the insane destructiveness of creepers during the day. Cases like that are just silly.

The spawn rate is just too high for all monsters.  I'd rather have fewer but deadlier enemies than the endless hordes you get every time you step outside your house right now.

Yes. So basically if you buy it during/after beta, you have to pay for every single update after.

I don't think even Activision charges for patches.  Durr...?

The only change is that you're no longer guaranteed future versions for free. I really can't imagine Notch charging people for patches - it'll likely cover expansion packs and such.

He said explicitly alpha customers still get everything free and beta get all updates pre-release and all patches for free.  So it is just content expansions that might cost post-alpha people ...

Quote from: Notch
We will also change the license to remove the line that promises all future versions of the game for free. Please note that this change only affects people who buy the game after December 20, so if you got the game for during alpha, you will still get all future updates for free, despite this change. A promise is a promise.
Buying the game during beta will include all updates up until release, of course, and bug patches will be free

I'm assuming that it means the Dungeons and Levers and Zombie Survival expansions will be charged for, not regular patches.

There is still a good chance that those will be free.

It kind of used to ambiguously seem like Minecraft 2 or any further significant sequel or development would have to be a free update as well. The text was removed on the advice of their lawyers so they don't get roped into giving updates free in perpetuum, just in case they do want to do DLC or etc in the future.

This is confusing. Is a bug patch different from an update? Reading this, it seems so.

On his tumblr he specifies some updates as "updates" and others as "bug updates". An example of a previous update would be http://notch.tumblr.com/post/1525944516/ <this. in which he adds support for texture packs in-game. And what of the bug fixes inside the update? Would future updates have bug fixes that beta and onwards people would not get unless they bought the update?

Would this be considered an update or a bug fix? If it's considered an update, presumably (if he were so inclined) he could charge for it for everyone who doesn't have the alpha?

The inclusion of "bug fixes" in "updates" is what confuses me. I would have been less confused if he said DLC/Expansions rather than using the word update.

Either way, I had planned on buying the game when it was finally released. I kind of feel forced to buy it now, that is if I want to save money in the future. Ehh. Pass.

Yeah, honestly I don't blame Notch. People are jackasses, and it would be easy to try to screw him over if they offered a paid sequel or expansion with that text still in place. I think they want to spend time making games, not in courts.

Plus, I already got my value's worth of the alpha. 15$ is riculously cheap- that's almost the price of a movie ticket! If Notch asked the alpha buyers to pay again for the final release, I would gladly do so.

Why would people be jackasses for calling him on a legal agreement? :V

But of course he took it down, its wording as is would entitle people to free sequels and expansion packs!  Of course the worry is that he'll start charging for regular updates.

Because he wouldn't have meant to make the agreement in the first place. People who did this would be taking advantage of the fact that he didn't go to law school. Trying to strong-arm someone into giving you more than they initially meant to (when the initial offer was extremely generous in the first place) would be a pretty nasty thing to do.

Do I spy a subscription based payment model on the horizon? That would be the best way to get the maximum dollar out of the paying public. I can see the advertising blurb now "Pay for ever update or subscribe for only $12 a quarter.". Oh Notch how quickly you 'sold out'.

On a more serious note, how would the multiplayer work with players who have paid for different amounts of content, or would you only be able to play with those that have paid for the same amounts of content?
