Guys. Wow. The beta has unleashed a horde of fantastic mods. So what's your favorite, if you had to choose one? Mine's gotta be Mo' Creatures.

I had 10 people over at my house on the first for a Minecraft lan party. It was loads of fun One problem I foresee though: Without internet connection, you can turn off online mode on the server but people still get the default name of "player", so the server kicks out people and only one person could be on at a time. The problem was fixed by connecting the switch to the router (which we had to do anyway since my DHCP server software wasn't working...), but in the future, and especially for many gaming conferences where internet isn't available, the ability to play with internet connection is quite needed. Relevant but less necessary is that you can't have custom skins without internet.

I would love to host a server, but with java wanting to horde so much memory and not playing nicely with OVZ, the server won't even start (on my OVZ VPS with 1gb of ram). I've tried some 3rd party servers, but compared to the official server they're rather trash (except in terms of resource utilization)

Never really found any mods of great interest, other than the grappling hook mod, but apparently that doesn't work with the latest update - last time I checked, anyway.

MrMMods must be my favourite combo. I turned the minimap off because it kinda ruins the feel of the game, but Betterlight and Bettergrass are both awesome mods.

I rather enjoy Fancy Pack, what with the furniture and the farming and whanot.

Does anyone have any tips for building an underwater glass house? Would you dig out a large hole, build the palace, and then fill it up with water? Or would you start under pre-existing water... I've been working on an underwater tunnel, but sometimes certain spaces won't allow me to place a glass block due to what appears to be a particular kind of water flow. As a result, I did kind of a round about thing to make it work and I can't help but think there are more efficient ways to do it

Yeah usually my friends and I build a structure underneath existing water, then replace the walls/ceiling with glass.
On a related note, I haven't been playing the game much recently, but the news of water mobs made me get really excited. That doesn't happen often except for like, Zelda news. Something weird/special is certainly going on.

I haven't been playing lately either. I mean, I probably have hundreds of hours into it, all the way from when Notch first mentioned it in the irc.
Without new content, its gotten kind of stale for me.

The easiest way to build underwater is to build the roof first, because it will limit the water flow into the middle of where you're working. But there's no exact science to it.

Me too. I keep going back and creating a new world, have a few hours of fun, then put it away again for a few weeks. The water mob and paint sound cool though, and those mods are definitely promising.
