I really don't think other game modes will do anything for this game. All the fun here is in building stuff collaboratively - and, by the way, it's particularly awesome when, thanks to the game's underground caves, you accidentally connect your building to someone else's!

It would be really nice if someone could set up a private TIGS server. Griefers really spoil the fun.

And, speaking of griefers, here's a suggestion: keep a log of the last person to modify each tile and how it was before that and give admins the ability to revert all changes done by someone. It would do wonders against griefing.

Maybe he could charge for that instead of for the game.

I mean, 1 buck for a 4x4 (unlimited height) segment that only you and your friends can modify.
3 bucks 7x7, 10 bucks 15x15... you get the point.

Um, no that would be a little excessive. What would be the fun in only being able to build in a limited area and having to pay out the arse for it? All you have to do is create a private server where only you and your friends can join on and make stuff. Why overcomplicate things?

No, you can use whatever area you want. But some areas would be limited from assholes that want to wreak it.
I said those pricess as examples. If the server has a vast territory, then 1 buck could be bigger surface.

Not everybody can pay a dedicated server on a host or have a great conection to serve.

What are you finger-mute? Or just a smart-ass?
Can you read? Or you just write posts seamlessly?

I'll retort:
Not anyone has the cash or connection to put a personal server.
If the creator is offering a mostly-online game without a service to back it up... It will be harder for him to succeed.

He could grant a private server on his host for each person that buys a copy, for example, for some period of time.
But if the target of the game is cooperatively do stuff, it should promote social interaction.
Then you wouldn't want to be in a private server... but a server that has other unknown people.
The ability of allowing or disallowing some of them on your territory would be necessary in the case of people that only want to mess around.

Also my idea was not to limit the area, but to have some places that can only be modified by certain people (you and your friends).
That's way more easy to implement than having logs and moderators having to read thru them in order to "revert to pre-destruction".

Repeating other answers is not very intelligent.
So, before being a douche, at least think of something constructive to say.

Thanks

Nitram's idea is the best I think: server protection at a price.

I can summarise it thusly:

1. Playing is free.
2. Plots of land that are yours and yours only (so only you and your friends can build on it, not the dicks who run around destrorying things) are paid for.

Whenever there is an option to annoy others it is seen as greifing, and there is indeed an option to do so (Since you can block the initial spawn, and you can destroy peoples stuff Undecided)

But if you can't build there is no fun in playing for free...

I just can't get past how a person decides to come into this game, a purely cooperative, sandbox, free-form, fun building environment, and finds nothing better to do than piss other people off. What the fuck is wrong with people? With competitive games, I could somehow get behind the "sore loser" theory (you kicked my ass, so now I'm gonna make your life miserable), but here... I just don't get it.

It just topped the charts, I went to a server I had previously been to, and was looking around, just to see what had been changed, I find that not only had they removed my huge castle, they had build a swastika instead, and I was kicked for saying that swastikas were racist and they should consider not building that kind of s*** apparently they disagreed...I just found a reason not to ever pay for this game, people aren't very nice in sandbox games.

Hi all.

Public servers are a bummer indeed! However, private servers are stupidly easy to set up. You just run a bat file, and the same for linux. Anyone who keeps any computer up 24/7 can set one up and make it NOT show up in the public list.

I have a private server running for me and a few friends, and we have a hobbit hole, castle, catapult, house, garden and a few other things. Most of the things I built have "easter eggs", like you destroy a wall and have access to some hidden area of mild interest Wink

And if you bought it, you can make and use your own skins, which is pretty awesome too! I just saw Gordon Freeman, a biker, a nude guy, a trekkie and a few others Smiley

Finally, I think Notch's blog has something about public votekick being a future feature.

Anyway, level files are rather small, so even if noone has the ability to have a server running 24/7, I guess you guys can just upload the file when you need to log off and someone else will get the server running for awhile.

I have to say I'm much more interested in a Dwarf Fortress mode than any zombie survival game, but either way the game's hellishly fun as it is Smiley

Cheers!

I have a fundamental problem with any payment plan that relies on other people being dicks.
