It was done using a dither function to reduce the image's color palette, some clever manipulation of palettes, and the minecraft map editor's png import feature.

So I've been playing on the Tigcraft server for a bit (It stopped working for me today, funnily enough). Gotta say I'm loving this already, been bothering a lot of friends to play it. The new sound you added is nice. It would be nice if you could mute the music without muting all the sound. It would also be useful if water had some kind of ambient noise. Certainly would reduce the amount of accidental flooding.
Is there any plans to include slopes/steps in the near future, or something else to make is easier to gain vertical elevation without jumping up a bunch of blocks?

Tigland was down for everyone today, sorry 'bout that.
Router decided to reset some IP adresses without informing me.
All fixed now, be sure to PM me if it's not up in the future.

I just played around with this for the first time today. This is all kinds of fun. I've had an idea for a cube based building game for a while, and find this very inspirational. I really like your survival mode idea. I think it sounds like a lot of fun.
I'd definitely recommend letting people leave on sound effects but turn off the music (I may have missed the option- all I happened to notice is the mute command). The sound effects are pretty nice, by the way.

This is really fun and addicting. The survival mode sounds awesome. Some things that occurred to me:
The little minerals that you'll find while digging could be used for something. Like, collect enough (what I assume is) coal and you can make pure black blocks, or something along those lines.
A little more visibility in lava? Not much, but when you're forced to navigate through it or want to build with it, it becomes a hassle. Maybe that's intended?
A sound when you jump or land would be nice. Speaking of sounds, the effects are really good (I especially like the destruction sounds, they tend to tap out a little rhythm), but the music while well made doesn't seem to fit at all. It makes the game feel a little depressing. I think something like Sim City 2000's musical style would fit better.
By the way, what's the tig server?

I get there and when I log in it just doesn't make anything happen, it won't let me log in, there is no bad password message, it just returns to the main screen and I ain't logged in.

Tigland is up for me. I was trying to dig a big chamber underground so I could build an underwater city but I've hit lava. Which is a whole new digging challenge. I was glad to discover you can at least push it back with enough time and effort. Would hate the have to try and clear out a massive chamber of it though. Among my increasingly bizarre contributions, the chamber of nonsense.

Don't try it. It's more dangerous than it seems. Go down the gold-G-labeled pyramid if you don't believe me.

I did -try- to check out the lava flood in the Spleef arena. It got frustrating real fast so in the end I gave up. I've been carefully marking the lava filled areas and backfilling them so I don't accidentally tunnel through again. I've already managed to let it into the bottom two levels of the chamber and had an ton of 'oh crap' moments of slamming blocks down to stop the flow. It would be nice to see some kind of real Lava wrangling solution. Sponges make things easy but rather dull when it comes to managing water and I like that there is another challenge aside from gravity when building stuff.

Ok, so recently I just made the switch to use Linux full time on my laptop. More specifically Ubuntu 9.04 64bit, however, when I try to play Minecraft all that is displayed is a black screen. It sucks because I still haven't been able to play the newer versions Help Notch!

Firstly, make sure your video card drivers don't suck. If that doesn't help, I wonder if it might be a 64 bit issue. What browser? Have you tried several? Do you get anything in the java console? What version of java? Have you tried rebooting your monitor?
Ok, that last one probably won't help.
But; in other news: One more week until I work part time on minecraft (60%) instead of just during my free time. =D

It sucks because I still haven't been able to play the newer versions Help Notch! Just thought I'd save you some time in diagnosing this issue. This is a not a Minecraft bug but an underlying issue to a library it uses namely LWJGL. Ubuntu 9 made some changes that broke how it works. The issue has been fixed and is available with the current nightly builds of LWJGL and will be part of the 2.2 release.
