Oh, I see what you mean. You aren't looking for modelling color as HSV, but trying to make some other sort of scale where value is "warmth" because "warmth" is more useful than value.

Have you tried taking the HSV algorithm and using value as a color offset of sorts? Remove any value-dependent calculations and instead just use your formula and add those RGB values on top of the result that has been found using Hue and Saturation.

Here's a prototype... just random colors. I can crop out colors with 2 discs. Then there'll be top down view of that crop (as per my earlier concept). Perhaps it would also be useful to crop out ranges of color indexes. I didn't want to write a Z order so I just used additive light mode. I need to implement the HSL to RGB thing, but it looks pretty straightforward. Then the user will be able to drag colors around in the top down slice. Yeah, I use the HSL but I plot S as Height and L as Radius... it seems to be the best way to present color ramps with the slices. I'll have to do a regular index map of the colors too.

If it works, I'll fix the CC palette with this. I made two mistakes with that pal: 1, monitor gamma was miscalibrated resulting in gray colors and too few darks. 2, very few good ramps.

I'm probably gonna let the user decide which color model to use, and which dimensions to link to which (HSV to ARH). Note lack of Z ordering.

This is 2901 colors, and I'll only be doing 256. Just went overboard to see what the colorspace shape looked like.

Interesting indeed.   I idly wonder if it would jiggle in sync with eyebrow man actually...

Well, hello there!Well, hello there!Well, hello there!Well, hello there!Well, hello there!
Well, hello there! Well, hello there!
Well, hello there!Well, hello there!Well, hello there!Well, hello there!Well, hello there!

Hmm.  Well.  That solves that problem.

Arne: I wonder, why you seem to have the colours be transparent in the first picture?

I used a 'LightBlend' mode, as it's called in BMX. It's normally used for explosions and... well, light stuff. The problem is that if many colors stack on top of each other, they go white, which isn't so good for a palette display.

Then I also just divided the RGB colors which were out of range, to make them darker. It's not really transparency.
