A map editor for a non-gridded tile-based game. Almost done the tile editing part, next up is collision then enemies/npcs etc. Please ignore horrible programmer art.

Awesome. Just add gravity to the line, and you've got a rope! I'm sure it's not that simple, though.

The first prototype is key to gravity. More specific, if you have a force applied to one chain element, you can apply to every other element. Gravity is like applying a force to each element every update frame.

Vampire armed with rockets The smoke trails are offset to give them a nice wobbly look as the rockets spin.

Vampire armed with rockets
[Awesome pic.]
The smoke trails are offset to give them a nice wobbly look as the rockets spin.
I wish more games used that flat shaded look. It can be very visually striking. Also I really like the sky in that shot, it makes it look almost like a painted sky.

Vampire armed with rockets
For some reason that reminded me of an old Dan Dare B side comic about the last vampire aboard a spaceship carrying the last of human kind. He was killed by getting trapped in a rocket ship and fired into a sun. It's less than totally relevant to your post, and a spoiler The smoke trails are offset to give them a nice wobbly look as the rockets spin. What about some black toon outlines? That one was more relevant to your post.

I am wrong. It's your game and your vision. That's what being indie is all about.

I thought about outlines at one point, since it would at least make the shapes of things clearer since I'm using so little shading, but decided not to go with it.

perhaps heavy motion blur only on objects (rather than full screen) It'll make things stand out when moving, even more so if you darken the motion blur so it acts as a super soft drop shadow kind of effect. just an idea.

Haha, it's not his game, he just had to spam his opinions expressively. I think that black outlines would turn the artistic direction into "yet another 'toon-look' game", which looks like all others, but I dunno. Pishtaco: Please post a moving-image one, of the spinning rockets with trail offset?

I started messing around with Fraps, but it seems like too much work right now. The effect is rather small and doesn't show up in a still image, but since you're normally travelling very fast along the trails they seem to wobble.
