So. This is my second post I think because I am a professional lurker. I have been working on a game that started off as an Infiniminer demake but I have somewhat deviated from that path already.

It can be found Here! hopefully.

You'll need the unity web player.

The problem is as it stands I don't really know where to go from here. I thought about something Dwarf Fortress-y but I don't think my system can handle large or detailed enough environments to make a proper good life sim type game.

So if you have any brainwaves or good ideas or just general feedback I'd love to here them. I know the player character is ugly. What did you expect it's a sphere with a bright green face tiled on it.

Gave this a whirl.  It is just sort of a tech demo at this point so hard to give any real feedback.  The controls seemed easy enough to jump around and dig.  It also was sorta fun to try and unleash the lava and run from it.  I did this because there wasn't really any other point I could discover or any real game play yet in what you've posted.  Wink

As far as ideas go that is pretty wide open.  You've got a good enough starting base to start adding some game play mechanics.  Give the player a point to do all that mining or exploring.

I never did find any water either.. heh.

Hehe...

Seems almost similar to Minecraft, which was also inspired by Infiniminer, and which also is trying to go in a Dwarf Fortress direction. Roll Eyes

It'll be interesting to see two of these games go on at the same time, though, one being 3d first-person, and the other being a side-scroller.

A life sim in the Dwarf Fortress vein is more of a long term dream than what i really want to do with this game. It is just something I'm incredibly interested it.

The idea of having something to find is obviously the best way to take this project but I still don't really know how to build a game around the idea of finding an object. Where is the end point, what obstacles do you need to overcome? It's hard Tongue

I'm sure I'll think of something one day though. I keep thinking this would make a fun dungeon crawler or something similar but I don't know.

I really want to include some kind of building aspect to the game.

This reminds me of the way you could dig the sand in the desert areas of Super Mario Bros. II, which I thoroughly enjoyed as a child!  I used to carved out my initials and faces and all sorts of things.

My only two notes on what you have so far:

1.) If press against a wall during a jump, you stick to it.  Is that intentional?  It doesn't seem to serve a purpose although you could certainly make use of something similar for wall climbing.

2.) Once you're down a hole, you can't get out again, unless it's flooded with a water source from the surface.  This would work well if you wanted to go with a more aquatic theme, but as is you need to think of a way to get back up above ground.

There's obviously a lot you can do with something like this.  Keep updating as you come up with more features!
