You know, this really makes me depressed about today's society. A police officer can throw a man head first into a wall, putting him into a coma, and not feel any more sympathy than when he swats a mosquito. What's worse, reading through those comments, there wasn't even a single one that wasn't happy about it. People think this is OK. At least reading through the YouTube comments makes me feels slightly better...

Remember; the comments on that page were made by police officers. IANAC, but I believe that they are trained to tackle (pun semi-intended) lots of different situations; in this case, it apparently boils down to " assume that every suspect is very evil and has a .45 pointed at you". As a result of being put in that mindset, attitudes like those spring up- not in everybody, thankfully, but this case and the comments on it are both examples of those who have them. It's obvious WHY the police brutality is covered up, because if all the cases were released to the public we'd have an uprising, no-one would trust any policeman ever, and then we'd be policeless. Then it'd all go to the shitter.
At least at the moment we have the lesser of two evils - the thought that not all cops are bent.

Policemen in Germany are really cool usually. Just saying. It's part of Amarica, I guess. From the outside it sometimes looks like it's bordering a police/fascist state.

Huh. That's weird. Never happens where I live, and I live in the USA.
Fucking around on the internet about corruption is usually, stupid, though. You need to contact people who actually, y'know, live near you. Part of the point of America is the freedom to resist unfair treatment like this.

If I was in Washington right now I would totally be on the ball calling for action but alas I am in Oklahoma and for all intents and purposes the cops are pretty nice around here. I got pulled over twice in the last couple of months and the officers are nothing but jovial here. It might have something to do with the fact that I am a student at the college and the college students around here seem to have a favorable reputation surprisingly. I've never seen the cops here do anything crazy though, doesn't mean it doesn't happen but in my experience the cops are alright in these parts.

There's MUCH more sickening news, you just have to look harder. Some 90 year old left her dead fetus in the womb for 60 years, since she couldn't afford to get it removed.

Yes, sure sounds terrible compared to little things like Darfur genocide.

The guy could have avoided that situation, but the brutality exhibited by the police was completely unwarranted. It's not like showing off his miniscule dick to everyone is going to cause people any harm.

Looks like you guys need to watch a seminal little indie classic known as "La Haine." Maybe then you'd learn hate only begets hate and you're all players in an endless game of self destruction.

Nobody is saying that all police are bad. It's important to recognize that, no, these incidents were not normal procedure, and no, they are not acceptable. The majority of posters in this topic seem to agree that most police are, in fact, nice people.

Policemen in Germany are really cool usually. Just saying.
They also dress like park rangers, so they don't even look like police to the untrained eye. It's part of Amarica, I guess. From the outside it sometimes looks like it's bordering a police/fascist state.
I wouldn't quite suggest that, I'd argue the UK is a bit closer due to the extreme amount of surveillance everywhere, but having no real experience with anything but American and German cops, American cops do seem pretty hostile and robotic. It is true that American police get away with beatings / tazerings / murder all the time. The worst I /think/ they can ever experience is being put on suspension or desk duty. I think I had a discussion about this with fartron on tigIRC, basically real cops seem to (anecdotal experience, of course) think the world works like cop shows; everyone they see is a potential criminal, their own kind can do no evil, criminals are categorically trash. Just talking to them when they are on the job reveals this; usually they will ask you all sorts of questions that aren't really important to try and see if you are breaking some sort of law unrelated to the original reason they are talking to you, and if they think you are lying to them or hiding information, they just ask you the same question repeatedly and get you to say something contradictory which, in normal conversation, wouldn't mean anything at all. If the color of a car changes from white to red during the conversation, because you honestly don't remember, you're probably in for a world of hurt. I'm surprised you have a seemingly high opinion of German police. If I was told correctly, the ground-level officers come from Hauptschule, and thus feel like society has treated them as part of the lowest caste and they have an axe to grind. Maybe it's just the person who told me this.

I never said I hated the police just that they need to be held accountable that is all. Police officers are just people with their own problems like everyone else. I don't blame police officers I blame a broken system.

Nope, you can't even go to the police unless you have abitur, as far as I know. And sure, there's dicks in German police too, but overall, they're okay people. One recent anecdotes: I jaywalked, right in front of a cop car (duuuh...). They then followed me, stopped their car at the sidewalk, ran across the street to stop me, I expected to lose a lot of money, but instead, they just told me that I should check that the traffic lights show green next time I cross the street. They smiled all the time. Then they left.

unfortunately you'll find bad people in all police forces in the world, even germany. Some people who have authority complexes, rotten policemen who think they can do all they want and get away with it and morons who think life is like an hollywood movie. But yeah not all police is bad everybody agree, but I think there is generally a higher percentage of morons in the police for the reasons I stated above.

Not only police. Among fire fighters, ambulance, army... wherever you look, you can be sure that there will be a fair margin of idiots. For example firefighters who start fires themselves to play heroes.

well, the difference is that if a firefighter or ambulance guy (EMT?) beats someone up or kills someone, it's prosecuted; if a police officer does it rarely is. lack of punishment leads to it happening more often.
