I liked Tom's apology. Let's see if The Escapist notices it.
Knowing the Escapist, they'll report this by asking Langdell for a 4000-word quote—and by printing all of it.

That's okay, Tom. You're still more cool than Tim.

ZP and Unskippable are the only good things about the escapist. And only for the humor.

ZP is getting tired too. Only so many ways you can repeat yourself. The Wolfenstein limerick review was really clever, but it's been he funniest thing in ages.

That's okay, Tom. You're still more cool than Tim. Yeah, try asking Tim Langdell to dance for us. He'd probably sue us or something. Tom deserves mad respect for busting those slick moves.

Edge games website updated -
PS3 Racers coming soon.
Hmmm looking forward to that one, Langdell actually believes he is a publisher!
I think he is mentally ill, what a sad man.

Tom apologized, but he apologized after going to Austin GDC and realizing that the IGF wants nothing to do with him and he can't get any work from indie devs. Hardly sounds like a sincere realization of guilt.

I dunno. I've heard much less sincere apologies. His justification for his attitude makes some sense to me. It doesn't justify his tone, but he admitted to that too. Admitting Langdell has been up to "shenanigans" is a great admission. Most crappy apologies amount to "I'm sorry you were offended." Which is not an apology at all. Now it's all just talk if he doesn't help Mobigame out with their legal problems. That's what the IGDA should be doing anyway - some Pro Bono legal advice for indie IGDA members with game-development related woes.

I disagree. It sounds like he didn't know the extent to which the indie community was "bothered" by him until he started talking to people face to face. I don't think it's about getting indie dev work because there's bigger money elsewhere. He just believed that the people complaining online where the noisy, aggressive minority. Tom has exhibited how he can be a bit aggressive or insensitive himself in his online communications, but that's just part of how he is. Someone like me may not get along well with someone like him, but that's more a personality conflict than Tom burning his own name over this one instance. His credibility took a hit, but if you liked Tom before the Langdell incident, this apology should be a step in the right direction for you.

Now it's all just talk if he doesn't help Mobigame out with their legal problems. I'm kinda wondering if there's anything else they can do now? Isn't it just a matter of waiting for the USPTO to (hopefully) cancel Langdell's trademarks?

The IGDA could submit a similar claim to the one EA did. The marks cause actual harm to multiple IGDA members. The IGDA could also make public statements supporting Mobigame's right to have Edge be called Edge, and decry Langdell's tactics.

Tom apologized
To be specific, he said he was sorry if people took offence to what he said. He did not apologise for calling Simon Carliss's article a "hatchet job", and did not apologise for calling people who were concerned about the Langdell issue "f***tards" during official IGDA proceedings. All he did was say that he was sorry people were upset by it. That's a pretty tiny apology.

Well, he did actually say that he was wrong in his support of Langdell, not just that he was sorry that people were upset. But, yeah, I'm not really sure this completely exonerates him...

Yeah, I forgot about some of that stuff he said in his abusive and poorly spelled replies to people. Some of that is what happens in INTERNET ARGUMENT, but if you're trying to have a good public face you should own up to that stuff too. So I appreciate him apologizing for what he did apologize for, and he was never abusive to me personally. He should probably apologize in person to the people he was a dick to, but that's not really any of my bee's wax.

I do not think that indie developers need Tom Buscaglia as much as he thinks they do. There are lots of experienced developers that I'd rather ask for legal/business advice, and they're not charging up the ass for it.
