The new features all sound nice, I'm just bummed about the art direction. The characters all look like the stepped off The Sims and the backgrounds look like they're recycled from Half Life 2. The whole trashy grindhouse flick feel from the first game is gone without a trace.

ha, i just watched the new teaser for it and thought it looked pretty good. I kinda like the "sims" kind of clothing they have on, its very very ordinary, which in this case makes it very original I think. The original characters were good but still didnt stray much from the classic look of cool heroes. I doubt I will buy this on release day though, unless its really cheap. I loved l4d for a while but I finally just got really bored of the same 4 levels over and over and over. I hope they fix how they distribute weapons as well. I always thought it would be more interesting if you didnt get all 3 weapons at the same time but maybe you find 2 shotguns, an m16 and a rifle, so that you are forced to use what you get.

If they actually go and realease a stand alone sequel, that's bad. I expected Valve to keep on making DLC for it. And they didn't show anything that merits a whole new game.
Also, it should be called L2ft 4 Dead.
gimme gimme gimme. Valve are not indie, valve don't make games for free. They want to release this as a sequel as the amount of new content warrants covering the cost of development with a commercial release. You're not entitled to free content, they provide it as they see fit. bah. |

I said DLC, not free DLC. I don't think anyone expexts Valve to to release everything for free. But considering all they have showed so far is a few weapons, a zombie, and new characters, it doesn't justifies a whole game, instead of DLC (free or not) or an expansion.

But you have to remember that doing an actual sequel lets them sell another boxed XB360 game.
That's probably a big part in why they decided to do a sequel over tons of DLC like TF2 (L4D is a perfect fit for the XB360 IMO, even though I play it on the PC).

It's bullshit. So we basically paid Valve to beta test Left 4 Dead, and now that they know how it really should work, we get to pay for the final product again.
I was skeptical enough when I got Left 4 Dead for its lack of content, I hardly played it worth the price tag, and now it's dead before we even got the SDK!

Huh? L4D was a pretty complete and stable game when it came out and we still got DLC for it. Yes it has four campaigns but the point of the game was replayability across the different modes in those settings. I for one have gotten more than enough hours of it and still play it with my friends. And here we're getting another complete game with new characters and campaigns. I don't see where the consumer got shafted at all... HOWEVER, I also think it's too soon and they could have milked L4D waaay more before working on a sequel. From a business standpoint it feels like they're leaving so much money on the table. That time could have been used to work on other projects like Episode 3 or new IP. |

Yeah but if you look on the steam l4d forums it's like a chorus of people saying exactly what he's saying. It's a little ridiculous; I can kind of see where people are coming from in terms of the content that was implied to be released for l4d, but if you look at the game itself and how much it gives for the price I consider it a pretty damn good deal. I've got like 200 hours in on it myself. |
