Hi,

I've just released This is the Way, a short platformer inspired by Hans Richter and Joy Division.

It's open source and there's Windows, Linux and OSX versions.  You can download it over here.

This project was largely an attempt to create a game with atmosphere, and I think I pretty much succeeded.  Gameplay-wise it's kind of slight though Undecided, and it could probably do with better level design.

Comments welcome...

[edit]I've updated it a bit so it's easier to get through the door.[/edit]

The Music is cool, but I really don't understand what to do. I'm standing infront of the black rectangle ("Step inside") and nothing happens.

Cool game.  I also had the problem of not really understanding what the exact goal is.  Looks like you go through the door gets you to new levels, at least that's what I got from a quick browsing of the source code, but that's not really apparent while playing the game.

The dynamic world in a platformer thing is a problem I'm struggling with in Shadow Physics, although my solution is right now is to kill the player rather than let them get stuck or tunnel through objects. I'm looking for a better solution Smiley.

kinda disturbing, but in a good way. would like to play more of this style.
music and visuals are working nicely together in this!

Sorry, figuring out how to get through the door was meant to be a bit of a puzzle.  I didn't think it would be too hard, given that the answer is in the readme (though it's not exactly signposted).  Maybe I was wrong?  And yeah, the grey fade out is the end - I liked the idea of just leaving the player hanging like that.

There is a kind of story to the game, though I think it's better to let people come to their own conclusions rather than spelling it out?  I didn't want to be too heavy-handed about it Undecided.

Yeah, I sidestepped the issue a bit thanks to the blocks moving in repeating patterns.  While it's fairly easy to get stuck, it won't ever be permanent (barring any bugs, of course Wink ).

Ok, I didn't understand how to go through the door at all. Sometimes it just worked, other times it didn't. I liked the sound and graphics though.

Also the title reminds me of this:

Okay, given the consensus seems to be it's too hard to get through/figure out how to get through the door, I've updated it a bit.  It should be easier to get through the door now, and the readme's a bit clearer.

Get it here.

Sorry, someone posted a link to another program of mine on reddit and all the views of the (admittedly ill-thought out) screenshots page brought my site down.  I uploaded the Windows binary to sendspace though: http://www.sendspace.com/file/m4sfz7  For anyone wanting the OSX and Linux/source code packages, the site will be back up on the 1st.

I'm a huge fan of War Twat and SYNSO, btw Grin
