this was one of the first jazz things i ever heard as a teen. i arrogantly dismissed it as hippie crap back then b/c i was still indoctrinated into the stupid "punk"/"indie" ideology of the 90s/early 00s. relistened today and its actually excellent. moral of the story: teenagers r dum

more pharoah sanders. ive been seriously binging on his impulse albums for the past 2 days and i think this one might be my fave. it's probably the funkiest all-acoustic album ive ever heard. almost electric miles davis territory except, you know, not electric. it's great how it climaxes into ecstatic late coltrane style free jazz halfway through and then snaps right back into that funky groove. great.

i can honestly say that it's the only album i've ever related to. not even my favorite, but i can't stop listening to it. all the other music i just listen to for the story/sound. I can understand this. Pet sound is one of the most incredible album in the rock history. It pushed the envelope at the time, and was written by a true genius. S.

Recently purchased Mountains by Hybrid Minds. It's an interesting blend of liquid D&B and Nujabes-style jazzy hip-hop.
