more music i listened to in my teens. for some reason sonic youth have "aged" really poorly for me, but bad moon rising is still a great album. it sounds different from anything else they did and i think it might be their masterpiece. it captures the atmosphere of cold war paranoia and urban decay better than almost any other album, except for "zeichnungen des patienten O.T." by einstürzende neubauten. or at least what i, middle class kid born in 89 and living in a city with one of the highest standards of living in the world, thought cold war paranoia and urban decay was at age 16. Tongue

i always viewed "bad moon rising" and "zeichnungen" as twin albums in some sense. "zeichnungen" was the berlin version of "bad moon" and "bad moon" was the nyc version of "zeichnungen".

My current “Music to code to” is some of the lengthier tracks by Yes. It turns out that absurdly long renditions of funky symphonic rock are great way to get the creative juices flowing without being too distracting Smiley
