this thing again. damn this is so amazing and it isn't like anything else out there. mixing anatolian folk music with psychedelic jamming and a house beat is just the best idea. these guys need to make an album asap

occasionally questionable arrangements (wtf is that boogie woogie piano doing on track 1) but otherwise a pretty nice fusion of ethiopian jazz and slow funk rhythms, occasionally verging on hiphop.

can's later stuff mostly isn't that good (imo) but this track is an exception. "all gates open" from the selftitled album is also quite good. i should make a can playlist that combines the best moments from their later albums into 1.

new Orb album just dropped a few days ago

i know theres been some recent controversy over how much the supposed "leader" of the orb, alex patterson, actually does in the studio and etc. but i honestly dont care and thomas fehlmann is an amazing producer, so even if this is basically a "solo" album by him it's still excellent.

Loop- Precession

hey, my favorite minimalist space rock band just released a new EP after like 25 years. and it's pretty good too! this is the most straightforward rocking song on the EP, the others all incorporate digital drones to some degree (i guess because that's what robert hampson, the frontman/bandleader, has been doing for the last decade or so). one track is even pure drone. not that it changes that much lol. loop was always droney anyway. for the most part it's a successful revival of their classic sound.

Kamasi Washington- The Epic

this got some hype due to the flying lotus and kendrick association. its pleasant to listen to but in the grand scheme of jazz it's nothing really groundbreaking. reminds me a bit of the later works of alice coltrane and pharoah sanders. frankly it seems like it was made as a jazz primer for hip hop fans. which is actually a smart idea & a noble thing to do. and it seems to have worked too: this album got the kind of mainstream hype contemporary jazz albums pretty much never get.

first loop unexpectedly release new material then flying saucer attack, one of my favorite shoegaze/post rock/space rock/immersive guitar noise/whatever "bands", announces a new instrumental album after 12 years of nothing. 2015 seems to be the year where all my fave obscure old british bands are coming back it seems.

(the above is their old stuff btw, their album "further" is really excellent)
