I don't see how people can have so much pride that an insult makes them rage about it that much.

That is a good attitude. The problem is that a lot of people do not share that attitude. Games that are publicly released should take into account how a wide audience will respond to it.

Which is essentially what sigvatr did, I think.

Death threats are obviously not fun though.

I wish I was threatened by death of 72 topless virgins with football helmets chasing me to my untimely death down the cliff into my beach grave, surrounded by people who ever remotely cared about me.

I wouldn't exactly wish for that - you might get 72 male virgins...

Obviously infuriating people was the cover of the book, all of you guys saying that I was just trying to piss people off are retarded and missing the point entirely. Offending people was taken for granted from the get go, I simply was trying to explain my reasons for doing so.

This isn't really any different from the media who shook up a big story based entirely off of the game title.

So you figured out that game was meant to be offensive? Well done! Hand Thumbs Up LeftSmiley

dude you're truly an asshole saying that...

just say you did a game for the fun of doing it, without thinking too much about the consequences, or you thought about it and you thought it could be "cool" having some exposure even in a way like that.

I really don't know what you want to demonstrate, you did a stupid game and you got your ass kicked all around. Also people aren't retarded only because they don't understand you or your game...
if that game was meant to be offensive for the sake of it, the retarded is you

I think you realize that what I have done is essentially harmless.

I think you realize that what I have done is essentially harmless.

It's not really harmless. Let's say I make a game called 'Jew Massacre' (want to take bets on how long such a game would be kept on a page before the inevitable retraction?). Afterwards, I could post a long pseudo-introspective rant about how I wanted to get it out like vomit, and that people who did'nt get it were idiots, as well as those who thought there was an ironic message behind it(there was'nt). But it's not harmless, in the sense it would quite meaninglessly offend someone; I could make a game called 'alien massacre' or 'robot massacre', and be quite free to express whatever I want through it. Because there is no sense in taking a cultural reference in an era where it is sensitive, unless you have a deeper message that you wish to convey through the experience(like in faith fighter).
Also, is'nt your post contradicting your apology?
Quote
I would like to make a public apology for any offense that I might have caused through releasing this game, and to Muslims in particular. My intentions when releasing this project were to mock the foreign policy of the United States and the commonly held belief in the United States that Muslims are a hostile people to be held with suspicion. I would like to make it clear that I have never shared such a belief and my intention was to mock those who actually do believe these things.
Quote
What brought me to create this game in the first place was my frusteration at the lack of distinction in our society between Muslims in general and bad people who are Muslims. I have never been able to rationally equate Islam or its followers with violence and the infliction of suffering and I believe that people who do think these things is where the limelight should be shining at this point in history.

Muslims around the world are suffering because others want them to feel bad about themselves, and those others do not want to listen to Muslims when they try to defend themselves. If any good is going to come to light because of this international scandal that I have caused, then I hope it is that people will begin to listen to Muslims because there is a lot they have to say at this point. They are not doing anything wrong, we are simply not listening to them, and because of this they are suffering.

and now
Quote
Muslim Massacre is a grand experiment in making you upset, because ultimately you just love being in that bubble, so eat it up.

Unlike some other controversial computer games in recent times that were otherwise motivated towards progress, I never attempted to draw attention to some of society's many ills with Muslim Massacre. In fact, the project was based on an entirely different level, one where these supposed ills are made redundant and entirely irrelevant.
Quote
So ultimately, there was no deeper meaning to be found in Muslim Massacre. It was simply a case of me vomiting some garbage on the internet so I could get it out of my system and move on with life. Some people make art to convey something to other people, but I make art to convey something to myself. If the entire world is going to tilt on its axis for my sake, then I suppose that's something I'll just have to learn to accept.
It sounds cowardice and dishonesty is how you chose to evolve then.

Sigvatr should become a guru who lives up on a mountain. He'd be perfect for him. People would come up to him and throw him money and ask him life lessons. He would then take the money and throw it back at them, and tell them to fuck off. The visitors would leave with a look of wonder on their face, as though they have learned something incredibly interesting.

I think you realize that what I have done is essentially harmless.

Trying to intentionally piss people off isn't "essentially harmless."

If you were to make a game called "Nigger Bash" or "Jew Oven Jamboree" just for the sake of pissing people off, that would be hurtful to a lot of people.  Nobody would doubt that.

If, however, you were to ironically make a game called "Nigger Bash" or "Jew Oven Jamboree" in order to make a statement about the stupidity of racism, that at least would have some merit.  Sure, people would still misunderstand, but misinterpreting irony isn't the same as getting slapped in the face with a deliberate insult.  Which is what you've admitted to doing.

So, you intended to piss people off with some hurtful shit.  How is that even remotely "essentially harmless?"

You're still trying to pin people's anger on themselves, rather than your actions.  It doesn't fucking work that way.

So yeah, the retarded really is you.
