Also, how do people think they would have felt had the creator been silent? Would it have been accepted more?
It was mostly accepted as a satire of the whole hysteria of the War on Terror (tm), before this thread's post. In fact, in his apology to the reactionaries, the author said
It quickly became obvious to me that releasing this game did not achieve its intended effect and instead only caused hurt to hospitable, innocent people.
I would like to ask for the forgiveness of Muslims around the world and to make it clear that I did not release this game with ill intent.
What brought me to create this game in the first place was my frusteration at the lack of distinction in our society between Muslims in general and bad people who are Muslims. I have never been able to rationally equate Islam or its followers with violence and the infliction of suffering and I believe that people who do think these things is where the limelight should be shining at this point in history.
Muslims around the world are suffering because others want them to feel bad about themselves, and those others do not want to listen to Muslims when they try to defend themselves. If any good is going to come to light because of this international scandal that I have caused, then I hope it is that people will begin to listen to Muslims because there is a lot they have to say at this point. They are not doing anything wrong, we are simply not listening to them, and because of this they are suffering.
The media only listens to the shocking and offensive Muslims and then conveys the story to people in such a way that those Muslims become definitive of the religion in general. If you are going to start listening to what genuine Muslims have to say, then you are going to need to open up to them when you see them in the store, on the bus or at work, because that is where you will find eachother. Genuine Muslims don't come out of the TV set or the newspaper, only exciting and infuriating news stories.

So ultimately, there was no deeper meaning to be found in Muslim Massacre. It was simply a case of me vomiting some garbage on the internet so I could get it out of my system and move on with life.
But I think he had the right to make that game, and post it, and receive whatever comments people wanted to throw at him- I don't necessarily believe it should've been made though, there would've been better ways to create a controversial game without the controversial title(which I believe is the main cause of the whole scandal).
As for modern art...I studied in art, and I was pretty much disgusted by the classes and what we were 'learning'. People who could'nt even draw properly were encouraged to create 'installations' where the public could read a lengthy text to understand the point. I think art should stand on it's own merit; if you have to explain anything at length past the piece's name, it's pretty obvious you're doing garbage. In art classes, those of us who could draw-paint and sculpt and properly attempt to understand reality were given bad grades and pushed towards a commercial use of our skills(we could make a living out of our passion), while the rest of my classmates ended up teaching art, helping older artists on government subsidies or having a completely art unrelated job. Lastly, the teachers were pretty disdainful of any alternative art styles, like comics and video games(oh, did they hate computers). They gave students the impression these tools were not for 'real' artists. And today, in the performance world, you can appreciate the results of these lessons, with over-pretentious pieces done by people who can't even draw correct anatomy.
