Have any of you guys played the Halfquake mods for HL1? I was blown away when I first tried them many years ago.

Paraphrased from another forum:

"On the topic of HL1 mods, I'm very fond of Halfquake and Halfquake: Amen. They're supposedly quite hard unless you quicksave a lot (which the author highly suggests), but their design and atmosphere are vastly different from those of any other FPS I've seen, with the possible exception of cactus's Mondo series. (Also, they have nothing at all to do with Quake.)

I would suggest starting with Amen, since it's the more polished of the two and has a neat soundtrack.

A video of the first level. (Warning, contains spoilers!)

I tend to play through Halfquake: Amen about once a year, it's still the mod that impresses me the most. Y'know, once I get over the whole wanting to slam my head repeatedly into the desk thing. That whole part with the green and the grey- Okay, let me be more specific: that whole bit in the open with the village up to the subway is the biggest highlight and consequently my favourite bit.

I can just tell this is going to turn into a Half-Life mod list thread.

You mean you don't have it on Steam?

I downloaded the games, but I don't know how to play them. What folder do I need to move them to?

If you haven't already, run Half-Life at least once. The mod directory (probably halfquake or hq) should go under Steam/steamapps/[your username]/half-life. Restart your Steam client and the mod should appear in your gameslist.
