I can't get into that kind of twitch gameplay anymore. Maybe I'm growing old.

Good to know there are other geezers. I had the same issue playing the game. Even Unreal Tournament feels less twitchy.

Speaking of free-to-play FPSes, Battlefield Heroes is a much less twitchy game, but also a different game entirely.

Man, I have to say one thing though: rocket jumping is a bitch. I've spent the better part of the last hour trying to get past the final stages of the rocket jump tutorial. I haven't tried strafe jumping yet but I assume that it is just as much of a pain in the ass. It's cool though, I am gearing up for the Quake Con tourney

rocket jumping is pretty basic and easy compared to strafe jumping. i never really got it and i played the game for 10 years (on and off). its true, that i never really tried to get it right (as i adjusted my play style to other tactics), but strafe jumping and rocket jumping can't really compare in terms of learning curve/using it right.

Yeah, I pretty much have rocket jumping down, well, the basics at least. Strafe Jumping I haven't even begun to start trying to get good at it. I think it is going to take quite a bit of time.
