Just a doodle, a wee bit inspired by Poto and Cabenga. Not sure what kind of game it could be...

More of a concept piece than a finished work, but whatever: It is a Stealth game. Can you tell?

or he is pretending to sleep.... It was the best symbol I could think of for 'This guy is not dead'. I'm not entirely happy with the body, but like I said it's just a test. ehhhh That's awesome. That it's just four colours is even more impressive.

ehhhh I actually really like that. The colors look awesome! The only think I'm not too fond of is the dithering on the sun. Nothing else in the entire picture has it, so it looks a bit out of place.

I did not mean to hassle you about it. I mostly just wanted to make the Metal Gear reference.

Gah, stupid letter brain reading made me see it as 'fell' rather than 'feel'. I did not understand the irony :S

Thanks for the suggestions. you could have a big pulsating heart in the bubble.
I like this idea... I might try it out when I get the chance. Maybe the classic "circling stars?" Or a lump on the head?
This is interesting, and I might start looking into it. The thing I was going for with the speech bubble was trying to create a format for what states the guards were in. The '...' above that one guy's head is supposed to denote that he hasn't noticed the player and is just going along his regular patrol. There are other symbols for different states of alarm. I thought I'd give bodies the same symbol, because you'd need to be able to tell whether they were dead, or they could be revived. Or when you use heat vision he has heat in his body?
The Heat vision suggestion reminds me a whole lot of the airport mission from Pandora Tomorrow, where you had to kill the workers with the raised body temperatures. It won't work for me however, because I'm not using heat vision :/

The '...' above that one guy's head is supposed to denote that he hasn't noticed the player and is just going along his regular patrol. I would suggest using something else for it, "..." denotes artifical silence for me, for example when you are alarmed. Maybe a note - whistling?

So just for convenience sake, here are the symbols I have that will go above the enemies, from top to bottom: - On their regular path. Has not seen player or heard anything suspicious.
- Surprised by something. The player has just alerted the guard by being seen or causing another distraction. In this state, the enemy will move towards the source of distraction, or shoot the player.
- Actively searching for the player. The Guard is now knows the player is there and is on a different path searching for him.
- Dead Body.
- Knocked out body. The heart thing JaJitsu suggested, but I don't quite know which one to use.
I'm going to try to think of an alternative to the regular path one, since TobiasW raises a good point. I was thinking of replacing it with an arrow above his head showing which direction he is going to move, and possibly what corners he is going to turn round. Another possibility is a symbol of some footsteps, showing he is on patrol or something. I don't know though.

I would make it: - Regular Path: Whistling or nothing at all - Surprised: "?" ("What was that?") - Aware and activly searching: "!" ("The player is somewhere here!")
(Dead is fine, and and alternative for "zZz" was already suggested.)
Whistling vs nothing at all could also denote carelessness vs normal awareness, if you want something like that.

I agree with the whistling comment, but '?' suggests searching and '!' suggests surprise to me. Although I'd go with '!?' for surprise, and maybe an eye symbol for searching myself.

I think a circle of stars is a better alternative than a heart. A heart is a good indicative the character is alive, but not so good that it is knocked out.
