It does have a look of it. It all hinges on how the fight goes...I think it needs a slope at some point during the battle. That would be awesome! And now: NIKUTAY  By panpomma at 2009-12-27 The quest of a dieing boy named Nikutay through the Country of Papa Creek. Nikutay has the power of the Word, to make words that matter to him come to life, not as the word itself, but whatever it represents to him. "grandfather" creates the old man's heavy boots for instance.  In each area Nikutay has to get to the Cloud-Headed-Man and blow away his cloud. One of the main features would be things turning into other things, such as the Yes-No-Birds becoming Plague Doctors if they touch the ground.

 By panpomma at 2009-12-27 A mock up of a actual game I am making called Pittapatta. Every tile and sprite is subject to change, but I do love each one so they may be used later in another game. Pittapatta is simple, it's Bomberman|Zelda minus the towns. You start the game with bombs and you select two items and thats all you get. Throughout the game you collect badges, which give you strange abilities, none are a outright bonus and you can complete the game without them. Thats it. Oh, and the hero, Pittapatta, is the Unchosen One, a thief and a coward.

I like it, apart from the mix of the outlined ninja and dogs, and the other dudes who aren't outlined. I prefer the ones without outlines, I think.. Also;  (Would <3 some critique.)

Pretty much, the ground would be deformable like Worms. As an aside: you may have noticed the words the monsters speak eventually fall and become part of the ground. The player is in a wheelchair and the game plays like a slower sonic, all about momentum and such. If it was ever made, I might add particle and bloom effects to show important items from the background. Thanks for commenting. No love for Pittapatta people? I guess its just too sparce at the moment. EDIT: Petethegoat, could you tell us what the mock up is of? I can't really judge it at the moment.

I'm not a fan of super light outlines in general. I'd definitely change your palette for your hero and those spikes. Actually the empty space outside the walls would look much better black than medium gray, too. Nice textures on the bricks though. And no harm in paying tribute to Cave Story. We all do it, right?

I didn't even see the character first but to me it instantly looked more like a tribute to the old GMs with that hammer everywhere.
