Greetings, all. This is my first post on TIGs, though I've lurked for a long time before registering today. Nice to meet you.

Anyway, here is a little something from an on-hold game project of mine.

!!

Have you played Treasure Adventure Game? =) If no, you should!

Your mockup is awesome, but you might be shocked at how close it is to the first screen of TAG =)

I don't even know.

It's kind of like Ultima VI in terms of how when you kill stuff it leaves blood and stuff on the floor.

This is cool! Though I think you should edit that character over by the well, it looks awkward.

Really nice!  Reminds me of the old Cinematic Platformer games.

Pretty neat, but what's with the awful nearest neighbour scaling?

I'm always impressed with your choice of colours. Do you have any finished games under your belt? I look at your stuff and wonder why devs aren't snapping you up.

It was a quick and sloppy upscaling in MS Paint.

No, I have a lot of ideas I've screwed around with but nothing finished yet. I lost pretty much all the work I put into my dungeon crawler project when my old computer bit the dust.

I was entertaining starting a game in RPGMaker VX Ace but then I started screwing around with the Grandma Engine in GM8 and I think it fits better with what I am in the mood to do. Something oriented towards interesting characters, detailed environments, and a lot of exploration (all my favorite things in a game).

I'm aiming for a NES Castlevania-styled game (in terms of gameplay, not graphics) as a project I can jump right into and keep a good pace with. I am currently throwing around cocept ideas, but once I've got something somewhat playable I will start a devlog for it.

Anyways, thanks for the kind words everyone.

 Concerned

Are you using a version control system for all your stuff now? (Like git or mercurial)

Also, yes, the colors are amazing.

Fantasy platformer RPG... IN SPACE!!

No, but at least now I back up my stuff religiously (to CD and to databank). I had actually intended to do that before, it was on my "to do" list of things that never got done in a timely manner lol...

Using a distributed version control system (DVCS) like Git or Mercurial is actually pretty simple (much simpler that manual backups, in the long run) and has a shitton of benefits. For programming it is almost a must ; for everyone else it can be very practical. To avoid a derail here, this thread has some good discussion: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=24938.msg709072#msg709072

Made a scribbly-as-fuck background for a platformer to see how it might look in-game. The image is 648x1024 and has invisible platforms placed over it. If you want to try it out you can get it here (directional keys move and 'S' jumps). Made with GM8.1 (using the Grandma Engine).
