I suggest you read pen's original design document I linked up there. Though it's a bit long, it's well worth it. Or, in case you don't feel like it: Permadeath, stupid deaths, randomly-generated mountains. Edit: paged I think someone here knows the joke.

Mountain-climbing platformer roguelike. Inspired by (ripped off of) pen's idea. Kind of defeats his whole artist vision of avoiding the typical tiles used in indie games today, though. However, I'd still like to make a climbing game like this. If you're reading this and don't like the mockup, pen, then feel free to PM me and I can take it down. Interesting. Do you have a Devlog set up? I'd like to check it out.

This looks interesting and makes me want to try it. Just one recommendation to accept or ignore: You seem to have chosen to use pure grey and pure red as colors. Might I suggest you push both of these a bit away from their current hue, just to add some visual spice? I'm not even talking about realism or lighting here, it's just that grey is such a boring color to look at - if you're using stylish pixel graphics, why not try something slightly more interesting? Red to black isn't bad per se too, but how about adding a layer of orange here and there, or even experimenting with another color to fade towards than black?

Looks really cool, you have my blessing if you ever want to do it Kind of defeats his whole artist vision of avoiding the typical tiles used in indie games today, though. pretty much this IS tigsource though, and it's always cool to see demakes, even if they're demakes of mockups

Well, I've been having ideas on *REALLY* making a game, and got an idea. And old school rpg where you brave the field in the right, commanding your little self with the command buttons on the bottom or using the arrow keys. Text would simulate a story teller making remarks and you'd get a first person view of the proceedings. Before I'd let the idea escape, I captured it, but I'm not sure I should do it or not. I'm scared of starting it and then quit on it. I don't even thin k it's that original, now that I look at it. Here's the mockups. They were done quickly, so yeah, ugly and stupid.

More Intellivision crap. This one looks NES-like. Does it have it's palette?
