Hey guys, I didn't find a thread discussing this fucking awesome movie, so here we go.

Quote from: District 9
Thirty years ago, aliens made first contact with Earth. Humans waited for the hostile attack, or the giant advances in technology. Neither came. Instead, the aliens were refugees, the last survivors of their home world. The creatures were set up in a makeshift home in South Africa’s District 9 as the world’s nations argued over what to do with them.

Now, patience over the alien situation has run out. Control over the aliens has been contracted out to Multi-National United (MNU), a private company uninterested in the aliens’ welfare – they will receive tremendous profits if they can make the aliens’ awesome weaponry work. So far, they have failed; activation of the weaponry requires alien DNA.

The tension between the aliens and the humans comes to a head when an MNU field operative, Wikus van der Merwe (Sharlto Copley), contracts a mysterious virus that begins changing his DNA. Wikus quickly becomes the most hunted man in the world, as well as the most valuable – he is the key to unlocking the secrets of alien technology. Ostracized and friendless, there is only one place left for him to hide: District 9.

Original Short Film
Trailer 1
Trailer 2

This thing has lots of potential, it was made by the same guy that made the Halo Short Movies (also worth checking).

I hope it's made in that same mockumentary style, it's a really neat way to ground the whole situation. The trailers give me hope that this might come true.

I see a lot of action in there. Hopefully they won't do 20 minutes of mockumentary and 2 hours of robots, lasers and explosions.

I really liked the realistic portrayal of an alien invasion. It was very smart, and different. THEY BETTER NOT MESS THIS UP

I'll definitely watch it, but I must say that I much prefered the original short film over the two Trailers. The basic premise of the movie is quite interesting but I'm afraid the typical Hollywood Boom/Boom is gonna ruin it.

Meh, the firwst movie trailer looked the best imho. I can appreciate what he was trying to do with the short film but it came across a little too cheesy. The first trailer really got it right, I could actually empathize with the aliens. The second trailer makes this movie look like another big-dumb Hollywood alien flick. I hope the movie is actually more like the first trailer. I thought it was funny though how the ships in the movie versions looked like the same ships from Independence Day :D

I just thought about something...
They've got to license "The Prodigy - Space Invaders must die" as the theme, if they don't, its a completely missed opportunity. :D

I'm rather excited about this, and I've been hearing about it for weeks, as they've got these awesome viral-ish ads all over los angeles.

The most common are these benches, which are everywhere:

But I've also encountered a few of these driving along the freeway:

Chicago too. In fact, there was an ad playing over the speaker system for it in Gamestop the other day, meant to sound like a government PSA. Pretty clever.
