As far as I'm concerned, Nicalis isn't really involved in the development of this one, it's Nigoro's baby through and through.

I don't know if we should rejoice just yet, considering the state of the Cave Story port on the Wii. Personally I am a bit wary of how this one will turn out as well... La Mulana is a far better game than Cave Story, but I have no great hope that its WiiWare port will turn out any less broken. Do you?

JackieJay, that was a very helpful and thought out response. Truly you are an asset to this discussion.

But hey, who knows, it might turn out wonderful. Maybe I will finally need a Wii after all these years.

Well, unlike Cave Story, La-Mulana was never known for its smooth controls and gameplay.

If anything, there is even more at risk when they port it.  La Mulana tried very hard (successfully, I might add) to look, sound, and feel like an MSX game.  Almost everything in the game was built around this concept.  Hopefully the Wii version tries for the same aesthetic.

The original La-Mulana might have been a love letter to the MSX, but I don't even know what an MSX looks like and I think it's a great game, so there.

Also, and this isn't specifically directed at you, I don't get the "I hope it's just like the original" attitude. I mean, it'd be understandable if it was ported to a handheld or if the original was on some ancient and rare console, but if you want to play La-Mulana in its original form, it's still freely available and there's literally no difference between playing a game like this on the PC and playing it on the Wii.

Oh, certainly it could still be a great game.  But a good deal of its charm resulted from a very consistent style, which the players, even if most of us never played an MSX (I never did either) were able to appreciate.  It could still be great - but a shift (if one occurs) in art, music, and control style represents a risk to all of those areas.  I hope they succeed, but there is a chance they won't.

PF: I for sure was expecting the Nicalis hate to start for one reason or another, but I found it pretty amusing that someone would imply the game might come out broken before it's even released just because Nicalis is somewhat involved.  Tongue

Anyway, to be entirely honest I find la mulana to be largely over rated. Perhaps it's because I never got far on it, I don't know. The graphic style never appealed to me, but I'm loving the shots and videos from the new version. If I have some spare money by then I'll probably buy it.  Hand Thumbs Up LeftSmiley

Yes it is known for giving you the middle finger and leaving you to die in a maze of spikes and puzzles.

Guys!

More La Mulana Soundtrack Clippings!

Subscribing to Nigoro's Youtube channel was an excellent idea.

(Necro reason : New update on the title)
Looks like Nicalis isn't going to bring this for the WiiWare to the US and Europe.

They say they didn't wanted to wait 2 years for it.

What a shame. I didn't played much of the original because I was preparing for this. Sad

those tweets sound like bullshit, Nigoro said they finished the game Dec of last year: http://la-mulana.com/en/blog/sorry.html

and then this: http://la-mulana.com/en/blog/report-2.html

Nicalis trying to place the blame on Nigoro?
