Updating with the work of one of our new volunteers! His name's Lybra, and he's doing some badass weapon and armour designs. If any of you should be so skilled to take on and capture a Gyarados, this is what you'll be treated to:

Intimidating, huh?

I love the spear! I'm not sure how I feel about the bottom half of the armor, though- that middle bit (not codpiece, but what's the word...) looks out of place. Maybe you could put the 'tail' there, and then maybe focus on the whiskers?

When I saw the thread title I was like "This will be one of those trainwrecks where everyone makes fun of the OP  Facepalm".

Then I read it, and Im glad it isn't that way.

At first I thought "not making up new pokemon-ish creatures for this is stupid", but when I saw that picture with the Gyarados armor & weapon, I realized that this is probably cooler than doing the same thing with new creatures. It's more effective 'cause its familiar, and "holy shit Im wearing a gyarados" is more powerful than "Im wearing some dragon-ish creature as an armor."

Good luck with this!  Beer!

Yeah totally.  You read "Pokemon" and "Fangame" in the same sentence, and you figure it's gotta be bad news, but I like most of what I see in this thread!

What can I say? We're more than your average fangamers.

We didn't want to include new Pokémon because let's face it - we aren't Sugimori. And being decked out with a Pokémon you don't recognise isn't anywhere near as awesome as beating the stuffing out of Guild Rokka with your Charizard Staff, Nidoking Armour and Dragonair Helm.

In fact you're picturing yourself in that getup right now. Yes, it's ok to drool a little.

Well that does make the project a little more feasible to finish, I imagine creating 493 different weapons/amour pieces.

That'd be me, 1Up. 'Sup?

Also for now we're only working with just Kanto and the first 151. Although Pokémon (and Pokéquipment) from later Gens will feature, they won't be accessible to the player for the time being.

With the release of Heart Gold and Soul Silver, let's have a GSC-related update!

Introducing to you Silver, the mysterious and ever-so-slightly brooding rival of the Johto region. He's a thief like Blue, but his motives and... unique sense of dress make it look a little less glamorous. He steals an important item from Professor Elm, and the poor guy needs it back pretty badly. Elm's a little reluctant to specify just what was stolen, though. Maybe it would be a good idea to put a stop to things before something unpleasant happens.

Just... pray the Gods of Nintendo are as benevolent as their public image is.

Benevolent? Nintendo's public image is that they shut down any games that infringe their IP. If your game is successful and gets noticed then Nintendo will shut you down. Obviously if your game is bad and flops then they may not hear about it and they won't come after you. Kinda sucks having to hope your game is a flop.

Since when is that Nintendo's image?
I've never heard anything about Nintendo shutting down any fangames.
There's numerous Mario and Pokemon romhacks and original games, a handful of Pokemon MMO's, the 2D remakes of OoT and Metroid Prime, the translation of Mother 3...
None of which I've heard anything about being stopped because of Nintendo.

Square-Enix is the company that shuts down any unofficial project using their IP.

If we're not making money off it (and we don't plan to), then Nintendo's track record indicates that they won't care.

I've never seen Nintendo shut down a free fan game.
