Hello guys, I've been lurking here for quite some time, but this is my first post on TIGSource and hopefully I can make it a good one.

I'd like to bring to your attention I project I, and some others have been working on for some time now called Hedgewars. Hedgewars is a turn based strategy game that shares it's genre with games like scorched earth, gunbound and worms.

Refresh page to change Hedgehog costumes

We initially set out to provide the linux OS with a game of the scorched earth/gunbound/worms genre as we felt no polished game was available, since then we've ported the game to Windows, OSX and are working on an iphone port. We have also moved in our own direction, offering weapons, tools, features and game modes that none of the games mentioned prior offer.

Hedgewars is at it's heart a multiplayer game, and thus contains fully working netplay that we hope to add to in the future. The game connects to a central server on which you can host a room, chat and sign up for an account so that we can begin tracking stats. In the future you'll earn XP for kills that will enable you to level up and unlock emotes, costumes and other showoffy-but-doesn't-affect-the-gameplay style items.

All graphics, art, voices, music, and so on are original and made specifically for the project. The game is entirely open source, with a welcoming and friendly community.

So on with the Media!

Please post in the introduction thread, it's here. This will ensure people know more about you and may be more willing to try your work or assist in your projects. It's easy to miss it, I think I did initially. However, doing so is likely to get you more respect and, importantly, attention than just a first, anonymous post.

About the game, though: the trailers make it seem like inbetween Teeworlds and traditional Worms, which is a good thing. It's certainly nice to see people developing for Linux, too. Alas, I can't comment on the game, since I can't play multiplayer at the moment...

This looks pretty awesome.  I just had a Worms 2 flashback.  This is not something to complain about.  Shocked

I'd write a devlog about my current game, but I'm too busy making it.

Thank you guys, I'll be sure to introduce myself in that thread

One thing we really need is sound effects, if anyone is interested and has the skills, please do get in touch!

Hey, wow: you've really managed to capture the general physics and feel of Worms 2 brilliantly! Grin

There are obviously still a lot of issues/unfinished things, and there's a lot of polish still to be added (especially with regards to the animation), but this is already really impressive.

I've been saying for years that there was a real need for a decent freeware Worms-style game (and even once drew up some plans for doing it myself...), so this project is great news! Smiley

I'll play a little more, and then come back with some more exact feedback once I have some. Wink

Thank you for the kind words! Really appeciated.
Yeah the animation does need work, but it's coming together slowly.. there are lots of hidden features in the game we really need to document somewhere too..

Like taunts/emotes (when its your go) type /sad /wave /ilovelotsoflemonade /juggle /rollup /hurrah

If it's your go you can make your hedgehog speak in a speech bubble
type a message in "quotes" in chat to make that happen.
Type 'a message like this' and it will generate a thought bubble
and -type a message like this- and the hog will speak in a shouting bubble!

There are many more, but these are fun

Look at this
One of the characters in this popular cartoon looks like your one, his name Ёжик(Hedgehog)
Interesting coincidence.
Perhaps the game will be popular with fans of the series.
