I saw this on an art blog today, it's an interesting take on augmented reality gaming. Probably most of us have seen the video of the zombie-shooting game on the prototype (?) NVidia handheld, this is similar but more of an art project and much simpler technology!

It's interesting to me because of it's minimalism. Just a laser pointer, two gimbaled mirrors, and a simple photosensor.

It looks like you can set the device up a few different ways, and then easily create game boards out of black and white shapes. So for instance, one mode seems to be vertical where the laser dot wants to fall downwards, but bounces when it hits something. You can even use your hands as flippers to send the laser dot back up, ala pinball. Cool!

ADDENDUM: I just realized, this technology's true destiny: the penultimate cat toy!

I'm almost as interested in augmented reality as with virtual reality, and I hadn't seen that game- it's pretty redundant, like most AR games. They won't be worth shit until real space acts on them.

The directed laser thing is far cooler, though I wouldn't quite call it "Augmented Reality", since it doesn't have much of a reality of its own.

When he was drawing lines for it to bounce off in real time I thought "It's Crayon Physics! With actual crayons! But no physics. Nevermind."

This reminds me of the Odyssey for some reason.

The Pong game was awesome.

I'd love to see something like line rider, I was thinking the same thing.

Do you mean the show on CBC or Homer's version? Or something else...
