Introduction:Purple is a platform game, similar to Super Mario World. Explore varied levels filled with secrets and bonuses, while smashing blocks and enemies with your frisbee. After two years of development, it's finally done! There are over 25 different levels (in 6 worlds) and over 10 special weapons. <Download Purple (12.7 MB)> <Mirror 1> <Mirror 2 (YoYoGames)> <Visit the game's site for more screenshots!>System Requirements:- Windows 2000/XP/Vista
- At least 1 GB RAM
- At least 128 MB video memory
- A video card that supports Game Maker surfaces
- (there may be graphic bugs with some newer nVidia cards)
Special thanks:I want to thank: - Martin Rijks - for the JBFmod library, which was used
for playing MOD music in-game.
- Denis Zhekov (Snooby) and Filip Slavov (DeadMeat) for betatesting, ideas and critique. Without them, the game wouldn't be the same!
Known issues:If you get "Unexpected error when running the game." or a black screen when starting Purple - it's most likely a video card incompatibility. I'm sorry. Also, the game will probably not run under Wine and other Windows emulators. If you're experiencing slowdown, try closing some heavier things like internet browsers, chat windows and BitTorrent clients. Pressing F7 shows the FPS counter, if it often falls under 65/70, the game is running slowly. Sometimes (but rarely) the game will crash when you go to a map screen from the main menu. If the game window starts minimized, the music may not load properly. (!!!) The water level effect doesn't appear properly on some computers. If there are graphic problems with a water level (2-2 for example), press F9 to disable the effect. I hope that fixes the problem... If you find any bugs/issues, please tell me! I hope you enjoy it

Awesome! I just beat the first stage and must say, if all the stages are that fun, challenging, and long, this will last me a long, LONG time. Great work! I love the graphics, sound, and everything!

I've also just played the first stage and thought it was nice. As soon as I ment to exit the game to continue later and the highscores showed, though, I wondered: Doesn't the progress get saved? Or does the game only save once you complete an entire world?
The only thing I found annoying so far was the time limit. I understand that this is very close to Super Mario and similar games, but I just never liked it. At least I don't play games like Super Mario for highscores, I enjoy exploration much more and don't want to repeat lengthy levels. So, I think the time limit and limited lives might make the game a lot less enjoyable for me than it could be. But, I'll see about that later. I will go on playing, even though I won't like having to repeat at least that one stage I had already played and in which I've already seen everything, anyway.

Oh hey! It's this game. I first found this loooong ago. Feels like much more than two years, I will have you know. Happy to see it's finally done.

Oh man, fantastic game! It really feels like an old Genesis platformer. I think it's the colors that make me think of the Genesis, either way it's super fun. Great work!

I agree with MisterX on the lives issue. I also thought it was kind of unfair to lose your progress on the percentage of items collected when you restarted from a checkpoint.

Thanks guys The time is not a problem in later levels, but I may increase the time limit for the first one. Yes, the progress is saved after beating a world. I know it's annoying, so I'm wondering - if I add infinite "Continues" after you die, will that make the game more enjoyable? When you continue, you will start from the beginning of the last level with 0 score. The later worlds are rock hard, so I think this will be needed. About the percentage: I don't think I can fix that, but if you hit a checkpoint with your weapon, it will deactivate - so if you want to get 100%, you can start the level from the beginning. By the way, did you encounter any graphical glitches? I used too much of Game Maker's surfaces, which don't work well on all video cards.

I think you could have an easy setting with infinite continues like you said, and a hard setting with the game as it is right now. Thanks for clearing that up about the checkpoints.

But I think it's going to be hard enough even on Easy Mode :D EDIT: OK, I added infinite continues. I recommend everyone who liked the game to redownload, I think this version is alot better

Sounds good. Now, I feel so weak, but is it normal that I'm already stuck in level 2? An insurmountable electrical barrier and a hammer I don't seem to be able to reach. But, thinking of it, maybe that screw might "know" the way.. Anyway, as you confirmed it: Why doesn't the game save after individual levels? With 5 levels per world or so, I think it may easily get pretty frustrating not to be able to stop playing mid-world and continue from there later, especially if later levels are as hard as you say. Though, maybe that's intended and perfectly normal, after all I'm just not into Nintendo Hard difficulties, but surely a lot of others are. Just wondering

I'm still learning about game design, you know :D I did not expect it to be a problem when I started making the game. But now that I added infinite continues after Game Over, it should at least be playable. I cannot change the save system at this stage, so this is probably the best fix for now. Spoiler: You have to fall on the platform with the hammer from above

it's probably just my computer, but when the two watermelon enemies appear in the first level, my FPS drops to less than 1.

This feels really professional. There are a few things about it that bother me though.
Firstly, there's the issue with how the game is saved. It's been brought up in this thread already, so I won't say anything more about it.
It also seems a little harsh how you lose every item you picked up in a level when you respawn from a checkpoint. I'm not going to go for 100% in every level personally, but I imagine that for someone who would be trying to do that it would be frustrating.
I would also prefer that there wasn't a time limit and that getting hit didn't make you drop your subweapons, but those are personal preferences.
Anyway, the game looks great, sounds great, the level design is creative, and a lot of the alternate weapons are fun (especially the laser gun). Great work!
