Platform Battle

The sequel to Platform Battle has its own thread! Visit the Platform Battle 2 development thread and try out a tiny tech demo!

Made with Game Maker 5.3 (because that's what I started with; plus, I use Vista)

Platform Battle is a hotseat platformer game in which two players battle each other with different characters. We really would appreciate your input!

Please tell us:

  • What you like about the game
  • What you don't like about the game
  • Suggestions for improvement (we are not taking suggestions for character and level ideas, however; sorry!)
  • Anything else that comes to mind!

This game is finished; however, we will consider all suggestions when making the sequel!

Features:

  • Two-player gameplay on one keyboard
  • Eight characters
  • Fifteen levels
  • Original music

A few more points to note:

  • We started the development of a sequel sometime around October or November of 2008. This announcement is more for record keeping than for anything else; however, suggestions are welcome! Those suggestions should be about things other than characters and levels (we will probably be developing our own characters and levels).
  • In the sequel, we are hoping to add a level editor and online-play; however with the latter we may need lots of help...
  • Thank you to samdamana for suggesting that we change the controls for Player 2's attack! In the sequel Player 2's attack will be, as he has suggested, executed with the ctrl key.

Thank you very much for your time and effort!

The yoyo link does not work! I'll be trying the game tonight, looks like a fun concept.

Sorry about that! I had forgotten that the links had been changed.

Let me just say a few things, though;

1) I can't imagine how you found this topic! I thought it would go overlooked! Thanks for your time and help; we really appreciate it!

2) This game is finished; however, I am working on a sequel.

3) I apologize if this game is a bit low-quality. I personally like it (it's my first publicly released game, etc.), but I have to admit, it doesn't stand a chance against some of the games floating around here! So many big names! That being said, it's been a while since this one was released, and I can assure you that my friends and I have improved our game making skills quite a bit since... Stay tuned for more of our work!

This game's like, several years old, right? I remember it from waaaaaaay back. It's pretty cute, but there isn't much diversity in the characters. Kind of reminds me of Pokemon mixed with Rampage.  Big Laff

Thanks for trying the game, guys! Sorry if you think dredging a thread up from the depths of the forum is rude... But I didn't do it, so there.

Diversity in the characters... That's kinda what I was going for - I don't find it too exciting when a fighting game just features guys in different clothes who punch slightly differently, or something, and here guys jump, they fly, they throw, they punch, etc. - but I guess it just didn't deliver? Sad

They're pretty different, but it's not like you're missing out on anything by choosing one character over the other. I'd probably work on more attacks or abilities or something. You'll want people picking favourites.  Giggle

Hello, TIGForums! Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but the sequel to Platform Battle has been progressing nicely so I thought I might share some screenies with you! Feel free to give feedback!

(Click the images to see them at 2x (in-game) resolution.)

Here, an old character faces off with a new character.

A shot of the newly added level editor.

Hey guy, my friend and I play this game whenever he comes over, he loves it so much!
And I think it's pretty neat too, so finding out that you're making a sequel makes me want to eat a donut!

Anyways, don't stop making the sequel, you already know at least one more person wants to see this thing come out.

Thank you! I'm glad to hear both that people like the first game, and that they look forward to a second! Production of the sequel might slow down a bit, but I definitely want to release it. I might release a tech demo soon --- stay tuned!
